EVALUATION ACTIVITY 4
HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION, PLANNING
RESEARCH AND THE EVALUATION STAGES?
2. MEDIA TECHNOLOGY
Media technology consist of anything digital this could be hardware and software that
allows us to communicate with other people or transfer any information. However over
the years media technology has proliferated and allows us to use this to an advents level
which help us to be more creative in the production process, and we are able to
distribute on different medium.
3. WHAT DID I THINK OF THE PRODUCTION
OVERALL.
I feel as though I have learnt a lot over course in relation to the
process of constructing my product ‘Behind the true image ’
considering how much I had struggle during our first filming session
due to the over exposer of light which had cause our footage to be
bright. In the planning stage it had involved working out which
location had best suited our production and fitted the cods and
conventions. Moreover we had used a variety of different websites
to publish our work such a Prezi and scribd.
4. The following images include all the equipment I had used throughout my production in order to
construct it to a satisfactory standard.
• Cannon 700D
• During the production stage we used this camera to capture high quality footage
and the use of the auto focus meaning that we didn't have to focus it ourselves
this mean that all of our image will be focus. i was able to teach myself how to
utilise this equipment so that we can come up with creative shots. By using this
we were able to use functions such as the zoom, and focusing so we could make
the footage in high resolution, and additionally alter lighting and light exposure.
We used the canon camera for reece pictures and costume/ location notes as a
record for us to use in our paperwork and show development. Our member of our
group had decided to use this because it had clear quality picture.
5. • capturing sound
• To capture sound for any for our production we used the zoom and the rode mic to record
voiceovers or the diegetic dialogue. This had allowed us to record high quality sound
which made our production seem more real and allowed the audience to understand the
character feeling. It was convenient as it was portable this meant that we were able to
record in different location
• Editing our footage
For the editing process of our production we used final cut pro, this was effective as we were
allowed enhance the sound and the colour of the footage, reduce light exposure and add
sound effects.
By using this software it improved the overall quality of the film for example some of the shot
had so much light exposed which meant that we had to reducing light exposure tool to ensure
this could be fixed. It took a long time for me learning to use it; however the end product was
more professional
6. • Tripod
• We had used this during the filming stage as it had made our shots clear and bring continuity
between shots, also with the tripod had allowed use to do shot that are not easy by free hand
such as over the shoulder shot and finally made the overall production look professional. The
tripod allowed use to film in different angle without having to move the legs of the tripod. This
helped us to get a variety of shots
• External Mic
• We used an external mic which we attached to the camera we filmed on so we could have a
better sound quality as the internal mic of the camera wouldn't pick up all the sound we wanted
such as dialogue and ambient sounds
• Headphones
• Headphones were used when filming as they were attached to the camera and let us hear how
much the microphone was picking up in terms of dialogue and ambient sounds. We also used
them when we were editing so we could hear the different soundtracks and dialogue on top of
each other, adjusting the sound levels accordingly.
7. • MacBook pro
• During allocated lesson time, we were given a macbook pro each in order to complete our
coursework on. this was a challenge for many ,as they have never used an apple
products like this before. this was not the case for me , i have previously used it before
hand and this then lead me to comfortably complete my work without any technical
difficulties.
• Social Media
• We used Twitter and Facebook in order to help us reach out to our target audience. As
our target audience is relatively young This enabled us to update our target audience on
what was happening
8. Ancillary tasks
For our ancillary tasks we had to make a poster and film review. To do this we used a software
called Photoshop. I used this programme, and at first it was tricky however towards the end i
had got use to all the basic this was also an effective way for editing photo. However it gave
me the ability to use a variety of texts, add effect to picture to alter the colour These tools
were used in order to get the best results for the film review and poster this software had
allowed me to use all the conventions of a film review through the tools.
9. • Blogger is a network site created by google and it was most definitely helpful to all
students, as it allowed us to publish all of our coursework on our personal blogs too.
initially, i did not have a clue to what blogger was and its purpose, although now, I find it
easy to use and to organise all work. We created a group blog and one personal blog
each which allowed us to post our work online the group blog, we used 'labels' which split
up our paperwork into who had completed what and when.
• Word
This was where of our work was produced by Microsoft Word this was mainly due to the fact
that everyone has at some point used this programme or at least come across the name
before. it is a well know program that allows you to scribe any type of information on blank
pieces of paper and we had used it both the planning and research stage and the evaluation
stage.
although i did come across a weakness of Microsoft word and that is that i could not upload
my document straight onto my blogger account therefore I had to find various other ways in
which i would be able to upload them . one way was by using scribed.
10. • YouTube
• Youtube , again, was useful in terms of watching video clips on information about for
instance, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule as at first many students including
myself had problems applying the rule to our actual production. It also allowed us to
educate ourselves in terms of ensuring we could use the software, Photoshop. YouTube
was extremely helpful in this sense. Also, of course, we had used YouTube to upload our
final production.
• scribd
• scribd is such a convenient site that allows you to upload your document onto their
website and embed your work elsewhere in my case blogger. This again meant our work
looked more professional as we added the creative work. One problem that we found with
Scribd was that it would change the layout of the document once it'd been uploaded.
•
11. • I used Prezi when presenting work as this software allows me to create presentation that
will apple to the reader for example my target audience research and evaluation as I was
able highlight key point in my discussion and make it clear for the reader. This software is
similar to PowerPoint, and allowed me to change my work style , it is interactive and
there are a wide range of presentation style to choose from.
• I had used Prezi before many times, on my AS and A2 coursework so I was able to
understand the different features of it. However one problem I found with Prezi it hard to
access your work in different places.
12. CONCLUSION
• The media technologies played an massive role in producing the product and helped us
in the advertising of the film we were making. i have learnt Microsoft word is not the only
way coursework can be completed there are many other, interactive ways to complete
various types of work also i have become much more comfortable around the filming
equipment moreover technology can make your production as a whole more creative,
professional and appealing to the audience.
