1. Extension
Programming Model
5. Analyze Data and Document Impact
What do I do with the data I collected? Analyze
data as planned (#3b). Interpret results based
upon statement of need (#1), outcome objectives
(#2a) and program activities (#3a). Assess which
program elements were successful and where
improvements are needed. Prepare narrative and
tables to reflect positive results. Develop
PowerPoint presentations.
6. Report Results
What do I do with my documented results? Report
results to appropriate administrative and funding
entities: Land Grant/Extension state, local and
national accomplishment reports; program impact
reports; statistical reports; grant reports; state, local
and national committee and professional organization
reports; clientele and policymakers.
7. Demonstrate Impact on Profession
How do I demonstrate impact on my profession?
Share results, best practices, lessons learned via
presentations at professional meetings, articles in
Journal of Extension and other refereed and trade
journals, and published abstracts. Refine and
distribute curriculum or other products developed to
other professionals. Accept leadership in professional
groups.
8. Attain Recognition
How do I obtain recognition for my work? Promote
your program's success. Apply for professional
awards from peers, national Programs of Excellence,
Land Grant/Extension and other organizations at
local, state and national level. Look for opportunities
to share your knowledge with other professionals:
appointment to notable boards and committees;
requests to share expertise with government bodies,
organizations, businesses, committees, coalitions,
etc.
1. Identify Issues and Document Needs
What is the problem I want to address and who is my
audience? Define problem and target audience using
needs assessments, surveys, literature searches,
focus groups, clientele requests, county program
review, atement of need (#1.) (May need to
& & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & & &
& & & & & & & & & & & & expansion and review
committee, advisory groups, local initiatives,
stakeholder meetings. Develop statement of need.
Ensure programs have sound disciplinary and
research grounding.
2b. Identify and Obtain Resources
What resources will I need? Identify human, material,
and financial resources needed to accomplish
outcome objectives (#2a). Use statement of need
(#1) to obtain resources. Sources of support may
include: state and local Land Grant/Extension
budgets, grants, monetary donations, material gifts,
advisory groups, in-kind support, paid staff,
volunteers, collaborators, partners. (May need to
revise #2a to reflect available resources.)
2a. Develop Outcome Objectives
What changes do I want to see in my audience as a
result of my program? Develop specific, measureable
outcome objectives for each audience using
statement of need (#1). (May need to revise to reflect
#2b).
3a. Plan Program
(Process Objectives)
What kind of program will I deliver to facilitate
change in target audience? Develop measurable
process objectives to accomplish outcomes
(#2a). Design research-based program using
statement of need (#1). Delivery methods may
include: educational events, experiential
activities, websites, workshops, research,
demonstrations, collaboration, conferences,
adapted curriculum. Develop materials:
curriculum, fact sheets, audio-visuals, electronic
materials, newsletters. Pilot test new programs
and/or curriculum.
3b. Plan Evaluation
How will I know if my program succeeded?
Identify benchmarks or success indicators for
each outcome (#2a) and process (#3a) objective.
Identify/develop data collection methods and/or
instruments: teaching evaluation forms, end-of-
program evaluation tools, standardized tests,
participant and parent post-program surveys,
pre/post tests. Plan data analysis. Check with
IRB if needed.
4. Implement Program and Evaluation
Plans
Deliver program (#3a) and collect evaluation data
(#3b). Record data as they are available using
appropriate tool (spreadsheet, word processor,
statistical software, etc.). Review data to make
program corrections if needed.
