2. On behalf of health and safety of Meraas, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you
all for your support and cooperation during this difficult time due to the spread of COVID-19,
which is having a great impact on all our lives. While we are taking all the relevant measures
to adhere to the health and safety regulations and requirements led by our local authorities
and international standards, and in order to keep you and your families safe, we remain very
committed to provide you a safe working environment.
To overcome this unique challenge, we request all of you to stay focused on the three
priorities. First, the safety of all of us is paramount. We can only make positive contributions
and live our purpose and values if we stay healthy and avoid spreading the virus. Second,
business continuity is key. We need to focus our efforts on securing our businesses every
step of the way. And third, provide the helping hand to the communities around us.
As HSE team, we want to assure you that we are monitoring the developing situation and
have resources to act accordingly, to implement the required preventive measures for the
safety of the employees, customers, residents and their businesses. Maintaining awareness
and vigilance is crucial as the number of outbreak cases reported is growing. Thus, we have
compiled this awareness training session for you to provide you with the needed information
and guidance for the required preventive measures against COVID-19.

6. COVID-19
Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus which may
cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses
are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common
cold to more severe diseases. First identified in a cluster with
pneumonia symptoms in Wuhan city, Hubei province of China.
Common symptoms:
fever.
tiredness.
dry cough/breathing difficulties
Some people may experience:
aches and pains.
nasal congestion.
runny nose.
sore throat.
diarrhea.
14. DECONTAMINATION
Decontamination
Decontamination renders an item or material safe to handle.
DISINFECTION
Disinfection reduces the level of microbial
contamination. Chemical disinfection does
not kill spores, unlike chemical sterilization.
STERILIZATION
A sterile surface/object is completely free of
living microorganisms and viruses.
Sterilization procedures kill all
microorganisms. Methods used in sterilization
procedures include heat, ethylene oxide gas,
hydrogen peroxide gas, plasma, ozone, and
radiation.

15. SOCIAL DISTANCING
Social distancing is a public health measure known to help stop or slow the spread
of infectious diseases. This is especially important with COVID-19 because even
those who do not show signs of illness may be sick and can spread the virus.
