1. Students held for going to movie in college uniforms
Police this morning briefly detained as many as 13 students in college uniform from a movie
theatre.
A team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, rounded up 10 boys and three
girls from the premises of Gopi Krishna Movies at Chabahil and handed them over to their
parents. The students from different colleges had apparently bunked their classes and reached the
theatre for a morning show.
“After we were told that some college boys and girls were at the theatre in uniforms, our officials
brought them to our office at around 10am. We handed them over to their parents after an hour,”
said DSP Rakesh Singh, in-charge of Gaushala police. “Students can enjoy movies in theatres,
but if they appear in college uniforms after bunking classes, it could cause negative impact on
other students,” he added, justifying the brief detention of the students.
He also said that his office has stepped up vigilance on dance bars, discos and parks in the areas
following rising complaints that teenagers were involved in indecent activities. Metro police and
Higher Secondary School’s Association of Nepal have been making joint efforts to crack down
students in uniforms who play truant. As per a code of conduct prepared for the students, they
are not allowed to loiter around malls, parks, theatres and other public places in college
uniforms.
HISSAN has provided five motorcycles to police for quick response to the situation. When
students are caught, they are counselled and parents and the colleges are informed.
