I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students can:
a. define a gerund or gerund phrase
b. identify the different uses of gerunds or gerund phrases
c. locate the gerunds or gerund phrases in a sentence

III. Procedure
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
B. Motivation
The teacher calls five (5) students to volunteer for the activity. They are
asked to pick any numbers from one to six one at a time. Each number has
corresponding words.
Student will act the chosen word then the rest of the class will guess the student’s
action that ends in –ing.
Actions to be performed by the students:
1. planting
2. dancing
3. singing
4. writing
5. reading
2. Directions: Pick a number from one to six and act out the chosen word that is
written on the card. Then, let your classmates guess what you are doing. After
guessing the action, use the chosen word in a sentence and underline it.
C. Presentation of the Topic
People engage in different activities to entertain themselves and to get involve in
the community. Those actions that your classmates acted out can be an example
of community engagement or entertainment.
Questions to follow-up:
What do you notice about the underlined words?
What do you call a word that is derived from a verb?
What name do we give to a verbal ending in –ing?
Our topic for today is all about gerunds and its uses.
D. Discussion
The teacher introduces the topic to the learners by using the powerpoint
presentation as a guide for the lesson proper.

F. Application
Group Activity: The learners are divided into three groups via count-off. The
teacher hands out the pictures of a family doing different recreational activities.
4. Group 1 – Mr. and Mrs. Cruz
The students are to construct sentences using gerunds based on the picture and
they are going to put a tune to the sentence like a song.
Group 2 – Franz and Erlie
The students are to construct sentences using gerunds based on the picture and
they are going to act out what the characters are doing.
Group 3 – Lolo Genie and Lola Emy
The students are to construct sentences using gerunds based on the picture and
they are going to present a dance routine on what the characters are doing.
G. Evaluation
Direction: The teacher hand out a worksheet for the students to answer. (1 PT)
