Angelman Syndrome

2. ● Angelman Syndrome is a neuro-genetic disorder
characterized by severe intellectual and
developmental disability, sleep disturbance,
seizures, jerky movements (especially hand-flapping),
frequent laughter or smiling, and
usually a happy attitude.

3. ● It is caused by the deletion or corruption of one
of the genes in chromosome 15.
● It is maternal(comes from the mother)

4. ● There is therapy associated with treating
behavioral issues.
● There is a new drug to help control the
neurological issues and the movement
issues.
● There are research whether folic acid and
betaine can lessen the symptoms.

6. There is no standard treatment for Angelman
Syndrome.

7. The only treatment known is therapy since
early detection will lead to abortion as soon as
Angelman Syndrome is detected.

9. ● Children with Angelman Syndrome will have
most likely been aborted when the defect is

situations(laughing at inappropriate times)
