Filtration system
1. Liquid filtration system
100% pure cotton fibre - high levels of the most pure form of cellulose fibre, alpha cellulose, combined
with ultra-pure water yields media with high levels of absorbency and moderate tensile strength. This
material is best suited for applications that are extremely sensitive to the presence of interfering
substances.
Blends ofcotton and wood fibre - addition of wood fibre adds greater versatility in the development of
flow rates and strength, which results in a more economically produced media. Cellulose fibres derived
from wood, can contain traces of naturally occurring organic and inorganic compounds that may cause
interference in sensitive reaction systems. For this reason, cotton/wood blends are best suited for use as
absorbent padding for collection of excess reagents, wash solutions or sample in self-contained reaction
units or other applications that are less sensitive to the presence of interfering substances.
Binderlessglass micro-fibre - manufactured from 100% borosilicate glass fibre with no added binders or
other chemicals that would cause interference in sensitive reaction systems. The unique characteristics of
glass fibre media make it ideal for use in applications requiring rapid flow rate, fine particle retention or
high loading capacity.
Glass micro-fibre with binder - a small amount of latex or PVA binder is added during manufacture to
yield a stronger sheet that still retains the same high flow rate and fine particle retention characteristics of
binderless glass fibre. The presence of the latex and PVA binders limits the use of this material to less
sensitive applications.
Specifications given in the catalogue are typical values that fall within a defined range and for this reason
observed values may vary slightly.
Used filter paper must be considered as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly in an
environmentally friendly manner.
