S.M.A.R.T. GOALS
WHAT MAKES A GOAL A S.M.A.R.T. GOAL!
Two Types of S.M.A.R.T.
               Goals
Process Goals:                  Student Result Goals:
Focuses on the implementation   Provides measurable and quantitive
of a program, curriculum or     feedback on how students are
instructional strategy          learning.
All S.M.A.R.T. Goals
       Are:
S=SPECIFIC
M=MEASURABLE
A=ATTAINABLE
R=RELEVANT
T=TIMELY
SPECIFIC
The goal states exactly what is to be
accomplished
MEASURABLE
Can be objectively assessed.
You should be able to see change occur.
ATTAINABLE
The goal can be accomplished in the time
provided.
Goal still must challenge the teacher,
organization, or group of students.
RELEVANT
Essential for success in improving one’s
professional practice (Process Goal)
Essential for success in improving
student achievement (Student Result
Goal)
TIMELY
Clearly addresses how long, how often,
at specific times and other issues of
time.
Puts an end point on the goal, for a
clear target to work towards.
Examples of S.M.A.R.T
       Goals
 Process Goal: Use a form of Formative
 assessment every week or every other week
 (schedule dependent) to gauge where students are in
 the content knowledge.

 Student Result Goal: By midterm of first
 trimester, all students who scored a 0 or 1 (out of
 5) on fractions section of pre-assessment will
 show growth of at least 2 points on the post-
 assessment.

S.M.A.R.T Goals

  • 1. S.M.A.R.T. GOALS WHAT MAKES A GOAL A S.M.A.R.T. GOAL!
  • 2. Two Types of S.M.A.R.T. Goals Process Goals: Student Result Goals: Focuses on the implementation Provides measurable and quantitive of a program, curriculum or feedback on how students are instructional strategy learning.
  • 3. All S.M.A.R.T. Goals Are: S=SPECIFIC M=MEASURABLE A=ATTAINABLE R=RELEVANT T=TIMELY
  • 4. SPECIFIC The goal states exactly what is to be accomplished
  • 5. MEASURABLE Can be objectively assessed. You should be able to see change occur.
  • 6. ATTAINABLE The goal can be accomplished in the time provided. Goal still must challenge the teacher, organization, or group of students.
  • 7. RELEVANT Essential for success in improving one’s professional practice (Process Goal) Essential for success in improving student achievement (Student Result Goal)
  • 8. TIMELY Clearly addresses how long, how often, at specific times and other issues of time. Puts an end point on the goal, for a clear target to work towards.
  • 9. Examples of S.M.A.R.T Goals Process Goal: Use a form of Formative assessment every week or every other week (schedule dependent) to gauge where students are in the content knowledge. Student Result Goal: By midterm of first trimester, all students who scored a 0 or 1 (out of 5) on fractions section of pre-assessment will show growth of at least 2 points on the post- assessment.
