Leadership Self Analysis
Before beginning my portfolio, I completed the Self Assessment of Leadership Qualities and
Skills. To determine how the foundations of leadership course improved my competency I was
asked to complete the task. Comparing the two results, I found that my communication and
relationship leadership style definitely improved. Earlier in the course I listed my personal
relationship skills as low. I believe I have developed personal relationship skills to better round out
my leadershipstyle. In my first entry, I listed three leadership objectives which I wanted to improve
on. I believed that these objectives would have helped with my career/leadership goals when I
become a human resource practitioner.
Effectively communicate
I wanted to be able to better communicate my intentions to my followers. I believed that a
component of leadership was developing ones communication skills in order to motivate one s
followers. While taking this leadership course during the semester, I was put in charge of a sales
time at my employer at DUCA Financial Services Credit Union. Managing the campaign, I needed
to effectively communicate what was required from my followers to achieve our sale targets. I
initially struggled with communicating this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the course, I typically used a task leadership style. I believed this made my
derogated. Using the course content I decided to round my style by trying using relationship
leadership styles. I tried to use the relationship leadership style to motivate my group members for
our leadership project. This was unsuccessful as my group members tended to slack off because of
my county club management style. I found using the task leadership style was more effective. I
learned that an effective leader will need to consistently change their leadership style to manage

Benefits Of Counterfeited Beauty Products

Counter fit ?
Cosmetics are seen everywhere in the market nowadays. Those who care a lot about how they
present themselves to other people would definitely buy them out of need. These products are often
sold at a high price and this is a problem to those who cannot afford them.
However, recently, products of the same name but different price have been popping up in the
market. Consumers all around the world would notice that these products are priced lower than the
usual. These cheaper products would most probably be counterfeited beauty products.
Counterfeited products are imitations of the real thing but usually sold in a reduced price. The
reason why people still buy counterfeited products is because who would want to resist a bargain?
Bargain prices are something good to us but considering what would happen if we buy and use
these counterfeits, it would not be worth it. Even though they look the same, these counterfeits are
far from the original. Therefore, it is only right that people should take proper measures to avoid
buying counterfeit make up and beauty products because they are harmful to our health, impacts the
economy negatively and are linked with other illegal
Activities.
Firstly, counterfeited beauty products should be avoided because they have been found to be
associated with bringing harm to the consumers well being. The reason for this is mainly because
these fake products do not go along with the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Year Round Schooling
Daytona Duncan Professor Kluttz English 3 28 July 2017 The Advantages of the Year Round
Schooling Calendar The discussion of the year round schooling calendar versus the traditional
schooling calendar has been ongoing for some time. There have been many discussions and
debates about the advantages and disadvantages of both. The amount of school districts across the
United States that have switched to year round calendars has increased drastically. The year round
calendar provides students with more frequent breaks of 15 days at a time and a shorter chunk of
schooling for students with 45 days in school, also known as the 45 15 plan. On the other hand, the
traditional schooling calendar provides longer chunks of schooling at a time for... Show more

Students who need help are given the chance to catch up during the school year, rather than just
in summer school (McGlynn 3). There are also many students that attend my school who speak
very little English. In this article, The school district, which borders Mexico has seen its
enrollment of poor students steadily increase to 50 percent since the mid 1990 s. The number of
non English speakers also has escalated (3). I believe that year round calendars can really make
a difference in not only tremendously helping at risk students, but also benefit all students
across the United States. The last major benefit from year round schooling calendars that I am
going to discuss is very important, but in my opinion is also overlooked. Student benefits will
always come first when looking at a situation such as the traditional schooling calendar versus
the year round schooling calendar, and I agree that student advantages and disadvantages should
be looked at first. But I can t help but ask myself this simple question: What about our teachers?
Will they be on board with this? A lot of people may think that year round calendars can lead to
teacher burn out in the classroom. Will my favorite teachers at my school get burned out? Will
they quit because it is too much? On the traditional calendar, I was wiped out by April. To do a
good job as a teacher took a lot out of me; I even thought of early retirement. Now,

Devaluation of the Feminine
Devaluation of the Feminine
The devaluation of women is built into the culture all through industry and popular culture. When
a baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family
and society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church
and being taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a
Christian. There are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to
certain behaviors they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American
culture, continues make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable .
The stereotypes for the feminine role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display
for public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a
South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle
of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested
in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax.
They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive
sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a
profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I
have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often
depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human.
In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are
not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they
are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses
with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not
have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that
are trying to become

Government Is Best, Autocracy Or Democracy
In deciding which government is best, autocracy or democracy, one must first define their
understanding of best. Should one be looking for structure, order, or longevity, then a reasonable
response would be some variation of autocracy. However, if one is looking for a form of
government which maximizes involvement from the general public and is flexible, then democracy
may be a better option. Both autocracyand democracy style governments can be divided into further
subcategories, such as a constitutional monarchy or modern authoritarian autocracy, and all of the
options will be considered, analyzed, and understood in terms what they are best for. To create a
framework for the discussion, Why We Shouldn t Judge a Country by Its GDP by Michael Green
(2015) and Economist article What s Gone Wrong with Democracy (2014) will be summarized and
used to compare Russia, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Relevant terms, such as
modernization, legitimacy, and consent, will be intertwined with the discussions of forms of
governmentto understand how governmental structures operate in relation to people. In
conclusion, I will argue that the best form of government is a federal parliamentary republic.
Michael Green s article, Why We Shouldn t Judge A Country by Its GDP, explored the concept
of judging a country s growth by the prosperity of its citizens, not by its economic prowess (2015).
Green and his team developed a model in 2014, called the Social Progress Index,

Comparing and Contrasting Architectural Styles

Service Oriented Architecture
Software Architecture is how a system is structured, it is a collection of all the elements that are
what make the system, there are several different styles which can be used to create a Program or
Programs. Software Architecture styles will describe the classes of the architecture being used, these
classes of course can be used repeatedly, there are known practices that allow the reuse ( Clements,

Resource Oriented Architecture
Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA) is the structural design supporting the internetworking of
resources. A resource in this context is any entity that can be identified and assigned a uniform
resource identifier ( URI) (whatis.techtarget.com). Per Dr. Roy Fielding, Resource oriented
software is known as an architectural style that exploits the existing technology and protocols of
the web, including HTTP and XML. There are four concepts that are most essential for ROA s
which are:
Resources
Names (URIs)
What they represent
Links between each
And there are also four properties;
Addressability
Uniform Interface
Statelessness
Connectedness (whatis.techtarget.com).
With ROA s it is very important to first determine what should be considered as a Resource, this
is what really distinguishes the difference between the SOA s and the ROA s, once this has been
done the next thing would be to determine the resource types and how to invoke methods and also
how to correspond to the responses. The resources will be accessed through the HTTP interface.
Because the Resource Oriented Architectures are still in its beginning stages, in my opinion, I don
t believe it would be the best choice between itself and a Service Oriented
Architecture at this time, I honestly believe

How has Jean Valjean changed as he interacted with other characters?
Jean Valjean has changed when he interacted with the Bishop of Digne. A little background on
these two characters is that the Bishop of Digne is the man who saves Jean Valjean with his
compassion. Jean Valjean is the hero and the main character in the movie. What was happening
during this scene is that Jean Valjeanjust got out of prison and he was looking for work and
nobody really accepted him because he just got out of prison and the Bishop let Jean Valjean in
his home. In this sense the Bishop of Digne just let Jean Valjean into his home and gave him food,

Ancient Mythology through Generations
Ancient Mythology has always been a very fascinating subject throughout many generations.
Whether it was stories of star crossed lovers, good versus evil, or the wrath of the gods these
tales have always had a way of captivating their audiences. One of the most prominent stories was
about Odysseus, a war hero who longed to return to his wife Queen Penelope after many years
away fighting in the Trojan War. He loved his queen very much and the fact they could not be
together tore him apart. When he returned from a long voyage at sea, he had to prove his love for
his queen. Another major tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan
War and wanted to see his wife Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have
found himself in a position that he shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales
about the epic war for the city of Troy, however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly
different when they returned home. The Trojan War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the
heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta, and the two of them returned back to try to
be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of disrespect, and demanded that somebody
pay the price for such a devious crime. Agamemnon was the brother of Menelaus and the two of
them formed an alliance against the people and leaders of Troy. When the dust settled many
familiar faces were dead including Achilles, Ajax, and Paris. King Menelaus

Male Gynecomastia Surgery
Gynecomastia is the medical term that is used to define a non cancerous (benign) abnormal
growth of breast tissue in males. Dr. Sam Gershenbaum is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon
who addresses gynecomastia with male breast reduction surgery (also referred to as gynecomastia
surgery). Males of all ages who have enlarged breasts due to this condition frequently feel
extremely self conscious about their chests. Following gynecomastia surgery with Dr. G in Miami,

Gershenbaum in Miami.
What can Male Breast Reduction Surgery with Dr. G in Miami Accomplish?
With male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Gershenbaum can eliminate the excess tissue that is causing
the breasts to appear large. During gynecomastia surgery, any excess breast tissue is removed and
the chest is sculpted to reflect a natural, proportionate, masculine looking chest. Some patients do
request that Dr. G perform a pectoral implant procedure at the same time as their breast reduction
surgery.
Who Should Have Male Breast Reduction Surgery in Miami?
Just like all other plastic surgery procedures, male breast reduction surgery is an individualized
procedure that should only be pursued to fulfill the desires of the patient. Plastic surgery
procedures should not be used as a means to achieve any kind of ideal image or to fulfill the desires
of some else.
Male breast reduction surgery should be considered by individuals who:

The Contributions Of Death In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Dante journeys along the path that will eventually lead him to God by first passing
through Hell. As he goes through his journey in Hell with Virgil, Dante encounters several sinners
who are being punished based upon the sins each individual committed. Dante s attitude towards
the sinners punishment changes from sympathy to hostility as he goes through his path towards
God. At first, Dante is to feeling sympathy for the souls that reside in the Second Circle of Hell,
whose punishment is to be constantly blown by wind. These sinners are punished specifically for
lust. Many individual souls are named by Virgil, but Dante starts to show signs of sympathy when
Francesca voluntarily steps forward to explain her love story with... Show more content on

I agree with Poggiolo s statement involving sympathy for Francesca because this means that
even though Dante feels sympathy for both Francesca and Paolo, it does not erase the fact that
they did commit the sin of adultery. Dante can feel sorry for their situation, but there is no way
he can forgive them of the sin they committed. God did put them there so no matter how much
pity Dante feels for them there is nothing he could do about their punishment in Hell. As Dante
travel deeper along Hell, he needs to become stronger to complete his journey. In the beginning
of his journey, he encounters sinners who did not commit a sin as bad as the sinners in the
Ninth Circle of Hell. That is why he feels sympathetic to Francesca and Paolo, who is in the
Second Circle of Hell. Now that he is at the last Circle of Hell, he needs to be fiercer and stronger
to get through his journey. Virgil says to Dante that Thy soul attained is with cowardice, / Which
many times a man encumbers so, / it turns him back from honored enterprise (Canto II, 45 46).
Virgil is helping Dante become more courageous in his journey, which leads him to become
hostile. Dante arrives in the Ninth Circle of Hell which is known to harbor traitors. The
punishment for theses traitors is to be frozen in a lake to represent the coldness of their hearts and
how they do not have any feelings of remorse for betraying others and their own families. The

Chinese Foreign Relations During The Imperial Era
Among the plethora of events which have influenced modern China s foreign policy, the so called
century of humiliation holds particular sway. Also known as the hundred years of national
humiliation , it refers to the period of intervention and imperialism by western powers and Japan in
China from 1839 to 1949. It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in Chinahave
perceived the world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic,
political and military front. During the imperial period, China s relations with its neighbours and
people of other ethnic groups was heavily clouded by Sino centrism and a concept of Chinese
superiority through the tribute system (John K Fairbank). Although... Show more content on

Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism,
waning of Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign
powers. Starting from the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its
territory and influence in Asia. This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was
inferior to the foreign powers (1968 Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great
tremor among the Chinese people. It was perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of
humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a tributary or inferior barbarian country by the
Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self strengthening and intensifying its military by
enriching the country and importing western technology to fit itself to the new world order with
effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security, leverage and status. From 1860 to
1896, the Self Strengtheners tried to draw western expertise and technology to strengthen China
militarily (The legacy of the past).
This time period also led them to understand the need of allying with other countries in order to
survive. For example, memories of Japanese atrocities led to the Chinese alliance with the USSR
in 1949 and again normalizing relations with Russia in the 1980 s as Japan re emerged as a

The Impacts Of Classical Music In The 20th Century...
The twentieth century music composition gave way to more incorporation to music as it was
known. It was the time when musical rules could be reinvented, altered and in some cases
completely ignored (Hansen, et al 154). This classical music was described by many different
works such as, orchestral, solos, operas, concertos, symphonies, chamber music, and many others
(Hansen, et al 168). As stated by Hansen, et al, Some musical styles within the modernist movement
were impressionism, serialism, minimalism, electronic music, experimental music, and change
music (160). All the musical styles were influenced through jazz but it was a moment of
breakthrough for all the composers since all rules were ignored. Aaron Copland and Benjamin
Britten were two composers of that century that shaped the way twentieth century classical music
was viewed. The different elements of classical musical such as melody, harmony, texture, rhythm,
timbre, and form are what characterized the twentieth century classical music. First, twentieth
century music had taken a different approach than earlier music eras. There were varieties of
differences which started from the instruments and the sounds that it produced to the complexity of
the textures. The composers used new approaches and ideas to their compositions and broke many
rules. The composers used the instruments and electronics to push ideas of serious music into the
mainstream (Hansen, et al 169). The twentieth century was known for

Analysis Of Kathryn Stockett s The Help

The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Title
The significance of the title is not only to summarize what the book is about, but it is also about
the title of the book inside the book. It s simple, yet to the point.
The author most likely chose this title because it is simplistic yet jam packed with meaning. Not
only does it refer to black southern maids working for whites, but it is also the title of the book
Aibileen, Skeeter, and Minny create.
The Help is yet again about black maids, who are known as the help. This term was very common
because almost everyone had maids working for them in the 1960s. The Help is not just about
maids, it is also about the owners who treated their maids as inferiors. Equality was not a leading
factor during this time period.
Author
Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, born in 1969, was raised in Jackson Mississippi. She
graduated from the University of Alabama and earned her degree in English as well as creative
writing. Later on, she moved to New York City and worked in magazine publishing as well as
marketing. Now Kathryn Stockett lives in Atlanta with her husband and daughter.
To my surprise, Kathryn s family had a maid named Demetrie when she was younger. At the age of
twenty eight, Demetrie cooked and cleaned for the family. Much like Minny, Demetrie married an
abusive alcoholic. In many ways, Demetrie is also like Aibileen, Kathryn adored her. Kathryn

Aging Out Movie Analysis
In the documentary Aging Out directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three
teenagers (Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and
become independent adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an
independent person. I will provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is
strong within the documentary. Structural Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the
relationship between social institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives
perfect examples of Functionalism because we can notice that those teenagers have all received
criticisms from all adults who are in their lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change
(which they experienced) because people use repetitive behavior since they only do what they have
applied it, to overcome problems in the foster system, all they have accumulated from criticisms
and see no way to better themselves. Nonetheless, one big contributor to the way these teenagers
have felt with trying to enter into society is a sociological institute, which makes them meet social
needs, for example the government, it tries maintain stability and contribute to the well being, and

The failure of Rome s economy contributed majorly to the fall of Rome. The Roman Economy
during the late Republic and Early Empire was based heavily on Agriculture and Commerce.
Agriculture in ancient Rome was not only a necessity, but was idealized among the social elite as
a way of life. Cicero had considered agriculture to be the best of all Roman Occupations (Sarudy).
There had been a lot of trading between the provinces of the empire, and all regions of the empire
were largely economically interdependent. Egypt was also important in providing wheat to Rome.

Emperor Domitian, who ruled from 81 A.D. to 96 A.D., had left the Roman Empirein a nearly
balanced economy during the greater part of his reign. It is estimated that Domitian s annual
income was more than 1,200 million sestertii (Roman Currency) which over one third would
presumably have been spent maintaining the Roman army. The other major of major expense
was the extensive reconstruction of Rome (Domitian). An Emperor that greatly impacted the
Roman economy was Nero, who ruled from 54 A.D. to 68 A.D. When complaints arose that the
poor were overly taxed, Nero attempted to repeal all indirect taxes. The Senate convinced him

which has been treated cruelly by many white people. Also, Douglass uses his story as evidence for
the abolishment of slavery. Within his story, there are three key incidents that affect Douglass s

Slaveholders allow their slaves to drink only during the Christmas holiday. Douglass explains
the reason: I believe [the holidays] to be among the most effective means in the hands of the
slaveholder in keeping down the spirit of insurrection (1049). Through this holiday, audiences
realize that owners with education know how to rule slaves and control a slave s mind, by
keeping them ignorant, hiding their identity, and making them lose their interest in freedom.
Douglass also sees that the holidays are part and parcel of the gross fraud, wrong, and
inhumanity of slavery (1049). The masters give slaves a brief time to enjoy Christmas at the end
of year, but they will hold their slave for the rest of the year. He cannot stand for being defrauded
by his owner; therefore, he becomes determined to fight for slaves freedom. By reading this story,
readers feel sympathy for slaves and probably they will be anti slavery, which is one of Douglass
purposes in publishing his life

Essay about The Civil Rights Movement in the USA
The American declaration of independence stated, that: All men are created equal . But in the 19th
century only whites were born with equal opportunities. Africans were imported as slaves and had
to work on the fields of the whites. Until 1865 the Negroes were treated and looked at as something
lower than human. They were compared to apes, and therefore just owned the same rights as
animals. They were raised believing that whites were superior. It took them years to realize that
they have to stand up for their rights. The uprising turned into a brutal civil war. After the war, the
slaves were freed. The thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendment of the U.S. constitution

This was considered illegal and Plessy got arrested. Plessy chose to fight his case in court,
because the segregation laws violated the fourteenth amendment. Four years later, the case was
brought to the Supreme Court. The justices ruled against Homer Plessy. Their decision was that
segregation is legal as long as equal facilities were provided. Justice Henry Billings Brown
summarized, The object of the [Fourteenth] amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the equality
of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could not have been intended to
abolish distinctions based upon color, or to endorse social, as distinguished from political,
equality. . . If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot
put them upon the same plane. This was the opinion of most Justices and the majority of the white
population at that time. From this quote you can see how the people still believed that the races
were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was considered normal in the court and in the
social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally, even though stated within the law, was
ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme Court in this case became law. It did
not gain the Negros any more rights or equal opportunities. Still, it was the first step towards
desegregation. It also made people realize that there was still injustice between the races. Justice

Analysis Of Disney s The Outer Shell Of Innocence
Females everywhere are obsessively trying to alter their appearance to mirror the perfect body
images surrounding us in today s media. Body image dominates media everywhere you look,
every time you turn your head we are pestered with beautiful women and perfect figures. The
overwhelming urge for women to have a body just like the perfect models and idols we see
plastered in media has spilled over into our children. Despite the outer shell of innocence, the
psychological and sociological effects of Disney figures misrepresent the ideal body image as
distorted to perfection and airbrushed to unrealistic; the iconic body image warping an adolescent
mind into aiming for unobtainable goals. Although advances on race and gender through
becoming more culturally rounded and balancing the demands of the public Disney fails in
forwarding their portrayal of accurate body image. Princesses along with other female
protagonists are displayed with size double zero waists, skinny limbs, and even small feet to the
point where bone structure is nonexistent. This unnatural, body size presented in Disney s
animated characters however, is what society calls for and demands. The thin ideal has existed in
American culture since the 1960s, and it is still increasingly popular today in numerous forms of
media; forty years later its impact has been so devastating it has become an expected norm. Our
society views a narrow, fragile figure as beautiful, and the media reflects that. In addition to

Essay On French Withdrawal From Indochina
Writer Virginia Thompson quoted, If France had not been victorious in the (First) World War it
is no exaggeration to say that she would never have been able to keep Indo China. It is also no
exaggeration to say that France s disastrous defeats in the early part of World War II were to be a
major factor in France s ultimate loss of its Indochinese colonies of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.
Various reasons account for the withdrawal of the French from Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, and
Cambodia) by 1954. Since the start of the French Colonization of Indochina around 1893, tension
was present in both parties which was only deepened by the series of occurrences and notions that
followed. The result of WWII caused France to be significantly weakened, specifically the economy
and the country as a whole. This led to the abandonment of the French from the Southeast Asian

Today, most American people will enjoy a meal that will be complete with an animal protein; most
commonly, chicken. The American people will consume an average of around 9 billion chickens
yearly. ( Poultry Facts ) Of those chickens, nearly 70% are raised in filthy, industrial style
warehouses, having never even seen the sun. ( BroilerChicken Industry Key Facts 2016 ) These
warehouses, or broiler sheds, pack the chickens tightly together, so much so that they must walk
on top of one another to move around. The chickens are overfed extensively and treated with
high amounts of antibiotics and growth hormones. After only being alive for less than 50 days,
the chickens are snatched up and packed into the back of trucks. Soon the chickens arrive for
slaughter and are quickly hung upside down, stunned, and cut in to pieces. ( The Life of: Broiler
Chickens ) I understand that eating animals is natural for people, excluding vegans and
vegetarians; I also eat animals, but I do not understand why the animals we eat must suffer. Also,
due to the unsanitary conditions of the sheds, those who tirelessly work to keep the flocks alive
are likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis, are subjected to dangerous amounts of E. coli bacteria,
and are at a higher risk of contracting a strain of avian viruses, all just to earn minuscule wages with
almost no insurance. (Monbiot George) Additionally, due to the change in the National Poultry

Ancient Greece Democracy
Ancient Greece is often thought of as being the birthplace of democracy. However, by taking a
closer look at the modes of government, it is clear that many elements of democracy today were
not present in society. Democracy is viewed very differently today than it was looked at in Greece,
with the meaning of equality somehow changing over thousands of years. The ways that people
participated and were represented in government has also changed, and does not show many
aspects of today s democracy. With taking a closer look of the representation of ancient peoples, the
role of women in ancient Greek society is also not substantial. Ancient Greecewas fairly democratic
because of the connections that ancient Greek government has to governments around the globe
today, the participation of the people, as well as the role women played. Today democracy is
often known for letting everyone have a say in government and letting people choose who
represents them or letting them represent themselves. Although some aspect of democracy are
prevalent in ancient Greece, there are exceptions which show how undemocratic life truly was.

The Sexualization Of Women And Girls
The sexualization of women and girls surround Americans and is damaging to females as well as
to American society. Females receive the sexualized messages regarding their appearance and how
they should act via the media, retailers, and American society s acceptance of these behaviors. As a
mother, Girl Scout Leader, and school paraprofessional I cannot help but to question are these
messages inflicting psychological damage on girls? Whom can I hold accountable for sexualizing
femaleyouth? What can I do to prevent sexualizationfrom affecting all of the young girls in my
life? The sexualization of girls is unacceptable because it is degrading to females, can cause
serious life long psychological damage and sexist attitudes, and may lead to violence against
women and girls.
Sexualization differs from healthy sexuality. According to the American Psychological Association
Task Force (APA), healthy sexuality is something that develops spontaneously in people that have
not suffered any kind of traumatic sexual crisis. Healthy sexuality includes affection, a relationship
and/or companionship, respect, and healthy intimacy between consenting people (APA 1).
Sexualization, on the other hand, is something that is forced upon a person. The APA defines
sexualization as a cause that ensues when one of the following causes occur: A person s value
comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics; 2.)
A person is held to a standard that

The Westward Spread of Inca and Egyptian Culture Essay
The Westward Spread of Inca and Egyptian Culture The second half of the twentieth century has
seen many changes in theories concerning the mode of colonization of the islands of Micronesia,
and the rise of the Inca Empire, with it s striking similarities to Egypt. In the past, it has been
suggested that Asians had worked their way through the Pacific, over a period of thousands of
years. It was believed that each island group had formed independently, and that the residents,
while they were of the same race, had totally different cultures. Since the 1940 s, however, these
views have been changing. It is now accepted by many scholars that early Egyptians sailed as far

agriculture (Ra 30). These reed boats were the same size and specification of the boats used by
Egyptians, and the people who crewed them began, among other things, building pyramids and
statues, many of which still stand throughout Central and South America (Ra 3). In fact, the
most concrete piece of evidence linking the Egyptians and early Americans is a small stone
statue, discovered in Mexico, bearing features that are decidedly similar to those of Egyptian
sculpture. The statue was carbon dated 800 BC (Begley, et al 28), long before Europeans were
said to have contacted Central and South Americans. The Aztecs and Mayas of Central America
also provide evidence of Egyptian contact. The starting date of the Maya calendar is 12, 3113 BC.
This is in the middle of the first dynasty of the Pharaohs. If these Indians had already been in the
Western Hemisphere for 15,000 years, why was it only after the Egyptians started using calendars

The Symposium By Plato Analysis
In Plato s, The Symposium, there are a multitude of things that get discussed amongst the group
of men, one of those theories being the idea of beauty. To truly understand what Plato thinks
about beauty, you have to understand his idea of forms, and the Form of Beauty. He describes
this as an everlasting loveliness which never comes nor goes, which neither flowers nor fades .
The essence to understanding this form, is that we can realize all beautiful things share the Form
of Beauty. But only in their involvement with this form that they become beautiful. It is an
unchanging, absolute, and immortal form that cannot admit to anything less. The form itself is
not ugly or offensive, or it would cease to exist in the form . This idea is brought forth in The
Symposium when Socrates is talking about his encounter with Diotima and her story of the
Ladder of Love . This story gives us an understanding of how we should love and what it means
to be truly beautiful. Diotima shares with Socrates the process by which one can aquire these final
visions , and then they are explained to us. One begins as a young person by being attracted to
beautiful bodies, and to one beautiful body in particular. This produces beautiful discourses with
this body. Which does not necessarily mean sexual acts. A person could be attracted to another just
because their physical body is beautiful. The next stage is to... Show more content on

Lamb to the slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s

after discussing troubling news that was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also
her husband s coworkers. The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him.
Mary asked them of a favor to eat the lambleg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right
under their noses when they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the most crucial
part of the story come alive. Mary walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the
big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his
head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could have just said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it
elaborates and explains how it happened.

A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay
A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment
Introduction
The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place
principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason,
liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The
Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy,
economics, sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of
Enlightenment. In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques
Rousseau in French wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on
education in children s early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their
respective period, but also in the modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their
educational theories.
The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau
and Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with
me and remind me of the experience in my growth process.
Rousseau and Emile, or On Education
Week 3 s lecture introduced Jean Jacques Rousseau and his novel Emile, or On Education. Emile is
divided into these five books: the first three talk about how to educate the child Emile, the fourth is
about an exploration of Emile s youth, and the

African Americans Should Have Freedom Of Speech Persuasive...
Racism is something that has been around for a long period of time predominantly Jewish and
Black communities. Both race have been subjected to hate due to the color of their skin, or race
that they are. Genocide and slavery have been apart of the black and Jewish community due to the
amount of hate that the were toward them races. Because of all the racismthat was going on
between there were many speeches and many marches Held in predominantly Jewish and Black
communities. Many of the marches that took placed played a big part in the freedom of these to
races especially for the African American communities. Many of these speeches would have never

What I find to be very interesting about the first amendment is that because we have freedom of
speech the Klu Klux Klan also known as the KKK are able to hold meetings and speeches that
they have against the black communities. I agree that people here in the United States of
America should be able to have freedom of speech but do I agree that that KKK should be able
to hold hate marches and speeches? Will this is a very difficult question for me to answer
because I am an African American, so my first answer is to say no, but when I use my critical
thinking that I have learned in this class I say yes they should be able to hold Hate speech. I
look back to the famous speech in the black communities that were held to lead our way to
freedom such as the I Have a dream Speech by martin Luther King or the Million Man March was
held by Minster Farrakhan there were a lot of people that didn t believe in the movement that was
happening during that time period but if it wasn t for the first amendment in the Bill of Rights
Marches and Speeches would have never been able to

Spread Of Diversity
The drastic spread within the world religions has been causing a great deal of diversity in today s
society. Due to the spread, as well as the diversity there has been formed lots of stereotypes which
in its length has created conflicts between both religious and nonreligious groups. Despite the tragic
facts, people are still sticking to their religions and the question is: Why?
Today s society, especially in the west, has grown to become more and more secular. It is said that
this is due to our governments. Since religion is about faith, moral and voluntary associations they
mean that if the government would be controlled by religion it would be forced to implement
religious acts. That could often lead to unnecessary conflicts that eventually

What Is The Formal Analysis Of The Bauhaus
The Bauhaus is a school that opened in 1919 by Walter Gropius. The school focused on bringing
together all forms of art and design making all faculties equal in importance. At first the school was
influenced by The Arts and Crafts movement but after 1923 the focus shifted to mechanized
production. Moholy Nagy, the director of the Bauhausfrom 1923 onward, wanted new solutions for
the problems of industrialization by means of mass production and educating the new generation on
how to create such solutions.
The students, from diverse backgrounds and interests, had to pass a preliminary course before
being admitted into the school and then were part of workshops where they would do practical
work (1923 Bauhaus Online [sa]). The Bauhaus believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another example of this characteristic of being clear and to the point without distracting the eye
would be the lack of tonal and textual variation in the design. Schmidt has made this poster as
simple and clear as possible so that his message could be understood the first time it was viewed
and so it would give a timeless overall impression.
The poster was well designed and clearly indicates all the aspects of the new Bauhaus s design
characteristics. This is why it is a perfect example of what should be used to exhibit the new
school, so the public can be aware of the changes made in the school beforehand. Schmidt, as an
educator at the facility, fully understands and believes in the new Bauhaus aims and shows this in
his amazing designs. The Bauhaus not only intended on solving the problems of society and
improving the way people lived but also wanted to unite the people through their

Toronto Transit Commission Case Summary
Summary of the Case In this case of Toronto Transit Commission v. A.T.U., the union grieved
foreman, Mr. Vito Stina s harassment as it provides an unhealthy work environment. Union sought
his removal, however, employer did not accuse the foreman with any harassments. The arbitrator
was noted that foreman has harassed griever with criticisms and public humiliation, that crossed
the boundary. The harassments continued on a regular basis, which showed ignorance and
disrespect. At the end of the day, foreman has ripped apart griever s dignity. Griever had filed a
hand to the employer explaining the harassments he has been experiencing, however, not much
was done. When the arbitrator was informed about this issue, arbitrator had to conclude that the
negative influence and the impact on the griever was too big to ignore. Therefore, it provided
griever $25 000 for the hardships. Then, arbitrator stated new rules surrounding this problem in
order to minimize the may arise: (1) the employer now has to ensure the griever had a harassment
free workplace, (2) employer was to not work the the griever in the same area, and (3)... Show more

homophobic comments about his coworkers. As a chair of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and
Transgendered Employees Caucus, Stewart feels like Taymore has publically humiliated him, or

side will present a new set of rules surrounding this problem. This includes the following: (1)
ensuring Taymore has the free right to reject working with Stewart and (2) allowing Taymore to

Comparing The Pedestrian And The Flying Machine
Ray Bradbury was a science fiction author who has written many stories throughout the 1940s
late 2000s. And to go along with those books he s made short stories. And two of which have
similar ideas or symbolism of his personal thoughts. And they are The Pedestrian and The Flying
Machine . The Pedestrian is a story about a man who is walking at night. He would be
considered normal for us but in this future society of 2053, he is very different. And so he is
arrested for just walking. The rest is just interpretation or theories. The Flying Machine takes place
many years ago in China. As the emperor is enjoying his life when suddenly, he is interrupted by
his servant who informs him that a man has actually flown. When he is taken to see... Show more

Where a character is conflicted with another character s ideas, rule, or anything else he/she
owns. And in this story, the two conflicting ideas are that of the emperor and the inventor. Who
have two different opinions on the same thing. Starting with the inventor, he sees his new
invention, a flying machine, as a thing of beauty, a great accomplishment, and a marvel of
engineering. However the emperor sees it as a great danger, and is too beautiful for its own
right(hinted by the quote Yes, too beautiful, . He would rather have something more simple and
actually good. As his idea of a miracle is, The air is sweet this morning...the sun has risen and a
new day is upon us. Or the sea is blue. That now is the finest of all miracles. Like for instance,
when the emperor asks the inventor what he has done, he replies with, I have flown in the sky,
Your Excellency. Showing how he believes his feat a great accomplishment. However the emperor
replies with, You have told me nothing at all. As from his point of view, there is nothing great about
this at all. Then later in the story, the emperor has him seized for inventing this thing. And when he
is asked about why he is doing this, the emperor shows him a beautiful invention of his own. Which
just shows a representation a good day. Claiming that to be beautiful. And the inventor quickly
replies with, ... I have found beauty. I have flown the morning

Music and Poetry
Music and Poetry
The poetry of William Wordsworth initiated the Romantic Era by emphasizing emotion, intuition,
and pleasure rather than form and affectation. His poems set the stage for John Keats, a central
figure in early 19th century Romanticism. The fundamental themes in the works of both poets
include: the beauty of nature; the consanguinity of dreams/visions and reality and yet the tendency
of dreams to mask reality; the intense emotions brought about by beauty and/or suffering; and the
transience of both sensation and human life. Although William Wordsworth and John Keats wrote
poetry with entirely different senses of purpose, they came together in the worship of a song that
each found in nature. Both Wordsworth and Keats... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth s persona in The Solitary Reaper explores the limitations of language as he watches
the maiden in the field, enthralled by her melancholy strain (6). Unable to know of what she
sings, he is forced to rely only on musical characteristics to influence his reaction. Such things as
tone, quality, audible key, and tempo make it possible for one to grasp the essence of music.
Although the maiden s words flow from her lips in Gaelic, the persona is able to identify the
emotions underlying her song from the melodic nature of the lines she sings. Will no one tell me
what she sings? Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow For old, unhappy, far off things . . . Or is it
some more humble lay, Familiar matter of to day? Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain, That has
been, and may be again?
Whate er the theme, the maiden sang As if her song could have no ending; (lines 17 25)
Wordsworth s persona s reliance on the melancholy sound of the maiden s song also forces him to
open his mind and his ears, leaving him free from any possible language based influence and
entirely enraptured by the sheer loveliness of the lass s simple, soul filled music.
John Keats wrote his Ode to a Nightingale in the typical style

  • 2. Leadership Self Analysis Before beginning my portfolio, I completed the Self Assessment of Leadership Qualities and Skills. To determine how the foundations of leadership course improved my competency I was asked to complete the task. Comparing the two results, I found that my communication and relationship leadership style definitely improved. Earlier in the course I listed my personal relationship skills as low. I believe I have developed personal relationship skills to better round out my leadershipstyle. In my first entry, I listed three leadership objectives which I wanted to improve on. I believed that these objectives would have helped with my career/leadership goals when I become a human resource practitioner. Effectively communicate I wanted to be able to better communicate my intentions to my followers. I believed that a component of leadership was developing ones communication skills in order to motivate one s followers. • 3. Benefits Of Counterfeited Beauty Products Natassja Martinez Mr.Yoder English 4 13 November 2018 Counter fit ? Cosmetics are seen everywhere in the market nowadays. Those who care a lot about how they present themselves to other people would definitely buy them out of need. These products are often sold at a high price and this is a problem to those who cannot afford them. However, recently, products of the same name but different price have been popping up in the market. Consumers all around the world would notice that these products are priced lower than the usual. These cheaper products would most probably be counterfeited beauty products. Counterfeited products are imitations of the real thing but usually sold in a reduced price. The reason why people still buy counterfeited products is because who would want to resist a bargain? Bargain prices are something good to us but considering what would happen if we buy and use these counterfeits, it would not be worth it. Even though they look the same, these counterfeits are far from the original. Therefore, it is only right that people should take proper measures to avoid buying counterfeit make up and beauty products because they are harmful to our health, impacts the economy negatively and are linked with other illegal Activities. Firstly, counterfeited beauty products should be avoided because they have been found to be associated with bringing harm to the consumers well being. • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Year Round Schooling Daytona Duncan Professor Kluttz English 3 28 July 2017 The Advantages of the Year Round Schooling Calendar The discussion of the year round schooling calendar versus the traditional schooling calendar has been ongoing for some time. There have been many discussions and debates about the advantages and disadvantages of both. The amount of school districts across the United States that have switched to year round calendars has increased drastically. The year round calendar provides students with more frequent breaks of 15 days at a time and a shorter chunk of schooling for students with 45 days in school, also known as the 45 15 plan. On the other hand, the traditional schooling calendar provides longer chunks of schooling at a time for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students who need help are given the chance to catch up during the school year, rather than just in summer school (McGlynn 3). There are also many students that attend my school who speak very little English. In this article, The school district, which borders Mexico has seen its enrollment of poor students steadily increase to 50 percent since the mid 1990 s. The number of non English speakers also has escalated (3). I believe that year round calendars can really make a difference in not only tremendously helping at risk students, but also benefit all students across the United States. The last major benefit from year round schooling calendars that I am going to discuss is very important, but in my opinion is also overlooked. Student benefits will always come first when looking at a situation such as the traditional schooling calendar versus the year round schooling calendar, and I agree that student advantages and disadvantages should be looked at first. But I can t help but ask myself this simple question: What about our teachers? Will they be on board with this? A lot of people may think that year round calendars can lead to teacher burn out in the classroom. Will my favorite teachers at my school get burned out? Will they quit because it is too much? On the traditional calendar, I was wiped out by April. To do a good job as a teacher took a lot out of me; I even thought of early retirement. Now, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When a baby is born he/she is like a blank slate to be written on by his/her surroundings, including family and society. For example, I am a Christian, however I was not born a Christian, going to Church and being taught about the Bible by my parents and teachers brought me to identify myself as a Christian. There are certain gender roles that are set up in societies that limit males and females to certain behaviors they are supposed to portray. The media in many cultures, particularly American culture, continues make the devaluation of females more socially acceptable . The stereotypes for the feminine role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are put on display as sexual spectacles. An example of a woman who was put on display for public entertainment is Saarjite Baartman, commonly known as Hottentot Venus. She was a South African woman whose body was exhibited at circuses, museums, and zoos. The spectacle of Baartman s body continued even after her death at the age of 26. Pseudo scientists interested in investigating in primitive sexuality , dissected and cast her genitals (and buttocks) in wax. They concluded that her oversized genitals were physical proof of African Women s primitive sexual appetite (Thompson). This is an example of the way a woman s body was used to make a profit, similar to the way the women in the videos are exploited for ratings. As a black woman, I have begun to pick up the common theme that Kilbourne pointed out; black females are often depicted as animalistic, purely sexual, and non human. In movies, many women are given roles that require them to be nude for sex scenes. If they are not interested, either they are rejected for the role, even if they are very good actresses, or they are offered more money until they agree to do the scene(s). Only the most beautiful actresses with the most perfect bodies are asked to do nude scenes. If the actress that gets the role does not have a fit body, they are given a body double that does have an ideal body. Therefore, actresses that are trying to become ... • 6. Government Is Best, Autocracy Or Democracy In deciding which government is best, autocracy or democracy, one must first define their understanding of best. Should one be looking for structure, order, or longevity, then a reasonable response would be some variation of autocracy. However, if one is looking for a form of government which maximizes involvement from the general public and is flexible, then democracy may be a better option. Both autocracyand democracy style governments can be divided into further subcategories, such as a constitutional monarchy or modern authoritarian autocracy, and all of the options will be considered, analyzed, and understood in terms what they are best for. To create a framework for the discussion, Why We Shouldn t Judge a Country by Its GDP by Michael Green (2015) and Economist article What s Gone Wrong with Democracy (2014) will be summarized and used to compare Russia, China, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Relevant terms, such as modernization, legitimacy, and consent, will be intertwined with the discussions of forms of governmentto understand how governmental structures operate in relation to people. In conclusion, I will argue that the best form of government is a federal parliamentary republic. Michael Green s article, Why We Shouldn t Judge A Country by Its GDP, explored the concept of judging a country s growth by the prosperity of its citizens, not by its economic prowess (2015). • 9. Ancient Mythology through Generations Ancient Mythology has always been a very fascinating subject throughout many generations. Whether it was stories of star crossed lovers, good versus evil, or the wrath of the gods these tales have always had a way of captivating their audiences. One of the most prominent stories was about Odysseus, a war hero who longed to return to his wife Queen Penelope after many years away fighting in the Trojan War. He loved his queen very much and the fact they could not be together tore him apart. When he returned from a long voyage at sea, he had to prove his love for his queen. Another major tale was that of King Agamemnon, who was also fighting in the Trojan War and wanted to see his wife Clytemnestra. However, when he returned Agamemnon might have found himself in a position that he shouldn t have returned home to. Both of these stories tell tales about the epic war for the city of Troy, however the fate of these two great leaders was vastly different when they returned home. The Trojan War began when the Trojan Prince Paris stole the heart of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus of Sparta, and the two of them returned back to try to be married. Menelaus was not going to take this act of disrespect, and demanded that somebody pay the price for such a devious crime. As he goes through his journey in Hell with Virgil, Dante encounters several sinners who are being punished based upon the sins each individual committed. Dante s attitude towards the sinners punishment changes from sympathy to hostility as he goes through his path towards God. At first, Dante is to feeling sympathy for the souls that reside in the Second Circle of Hell, whose punishment is to be constantly blown by wind. These sinners are punished specifically for lust. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with Poggiolo s statement involving sympathy for Francesca because this means that even though Dante feels sympathy for both Francesca and Paolo, it does not erase the fact that they did commit the sin of adultery. Dante can feel sorry for their situation, but there is no way he can forgive them of the sin they committed. God did put them there so no matter how much pity Dante feels for them there is nothing he could do about their punishment in Hell. As Dante travel deeper along Hell, he needs to become stronger to complete his journey. In the beginning of his journey, he encounters sinners who did not commit a sin as bad as the sinners in the Ninth Circle of Hell. That is why he feels sympathetic to Francesca and Paolo, who is in the Second Circle of Hell. Now that he is at the last Circle of Hell, he needs to be fiercer and stronger to get through his journey. Virgil says to Dante that Thy soul attained is with cowardice, / Which many times a man encumbers so, / it turns him back from honored enterprise (Canto II, 45 46). Virgil is helping Dante become more courageous in his journey, which leads him to become hostile. Dante arrives in the Ninth Circle of Hell which is known to harbor traitors. Also known as the hundred years of national humiliation , it refers to the period of intervention and imperialism by western powers and Japan in China from 1839 to 1949. It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in Chinahave perceived the world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic, political and military front. During the imperial period, China s relations with its neighbours and people of other ethnic groups was heavily clouded by Sino centrism and a concept of Chinese superiority through the tribute system (John K Fairbank). Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism, waning of Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign powers. Starting from the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its territory and influence in Asia. This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was inferior to the foreign powers (1968 Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great tremor among the Chinese people. It was perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a tributary or inferior barbarian country by the Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self strengthening and intensifying its military by enriching the country and importing western technology to fit itself to the new world order with effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security, leverage and status. From 1860 to 1896, the Self Strengtheners tried to draw western expertise and technology to strengthen China militarily (The legacy of the past). This time period also led them to understand the need of allying with other countries in order to survive. For example, memories of Japanese atrocities led to the Chinese alliance with the USSR in 1949 and again normalizing relations with Russia in the 1980 s as Japan re emerged as a ... • 14. The Impacts Of Classical Music In The 20th Century... The twentieth century music composition gave way to more incorporation to music as it was known. It was the time when musical rules could be reinvented, altered and in some cases completely ignored (Hansen, et al 154). This classical music was described by many different works such as, orchestral, solos, operas, concertos, symphonies, chamber music, and many others (Hansen, et al 168). As stated by Hansen, et al, Some musical styles within the modernist movement were impressionism, serialism, minimalism, electronic music, experimental music, and change music (160). All the musical styles were influenced through jazz but it was a moment of breakthrough for all the composers since all rules were ignored. Aaron Copland and Benjamin Britten were two composers of that century that shaped the way twentieth century classical music was viewed. The different elements of classical musical such as melody, harmony, texture, rhythm, timbre, and form are what characterized the twentieth century classical music. First, twentieth century music had taken a different approach than earlier music eras. There were varieties of differences which started from the instruments and the sounds that it produced to the complexity of the textures. The composers used new approaches and ideas to their compositions and broke many rules. The composers used the instruments and electronics to push ideas of serious music into the mainstream (Hansen, et al 169). The twentieth century was known for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s simple, yet to the point. The author most likely chose this title because it is simplistic yet jam packed with meaning. Not only does it refer to black southern maids working for whites, but it is also the title of the book Aibileen, Skeeter, and Minny create. The Help is yet again about black maids, who are known as the help. This term was very common because almost everyone had maids working for them in the 1960s. The Help is not just about maids, it is also about the owners who treated their maids as inferiors. Equality was not a leading factor during this time period. Author Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, born in 1969, was raised in Jackson Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Alabama and earned her degree in English as well as creative writing. Later on, she moved to New York City and worked in magazine publishing as well as marketing. Now Kathryn Stockett lives in Atlanta with her husband and daughter. To my surprise, Kathryn s family had a maid named Demetrie when she was younger. • 18. Aging Out Movie Analysis In the documentary Aging Out directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three teenagers (Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and become independent adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an independent person. I will provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is strong within the documentary. Structural Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the relationship between social institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives perfect examples of Functionalism because we can notice that those teenagers have all received criticisms from all adults who are in their lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change (which they experienced) because people use repetitive behavior since they only do what they have applied it, to overcome problems in the foster system, all they have accumulated from criticisms and see no way to better themselves. • 19. The Failure of Rome’s Economy and the Fall of the Roman... The failure of Rome s economy contributed majorly to the fall of Rome. The Roman Economy during the late Republic and Early Empire was based heavily on Agriculture and Commerce. Agriculture in ancient Rome was not only a necessity, but was idealized among the social elite as a way of life. Cicero had considered agriculture to be the best of all Roman Occupations (Sarudy). There had been a lot of trading between the provinces of the empire, and all regions of the empire were largely economically interdependent. Egypt was also important in providing wheat to Rome. Shipments of Egyptian wheat may have amounted to 20 million modii (an Ancient Roman measurement) or more annually. Twenty million modii of wheat was nearly enough for up to half... It is estimated that Domitian s annual income was more than 1,200 million sestertii (Roman Currency) which over one third would presumably have been spent maintaining the Roman army. The other major of major expense was the extensive reconstruction of Rome (Domitian). An Emperor that greatly impacted the Roman economy was Nero, who ruled from 54 A.D. to 68 A.D. When complaints arose that the poor were overly taxed, Nero attempted to repeal all indirect taxes. The Senate convinced him that this action would bankrupt the public treasury. In result, Nero cut taxes from 4.5% to 2.5% (Bluejayblog) Government taxes were also ordered to become public. In order to lower the cost of food imports, Nero declared that merchant ships were tax exempt. After Rome burned in 64, Nero enacted a public relief effort to restore Rome. For a few construction projects, he created the large Domus Aurea and attempted to have a canal dug at the Isthmus of Corinth. However, these projects had cost vast amounts of money which quickly drained the economy. Eventually during Nero s reign, he had devalued Roman Currency for the first time in Roman History. • 20. Fredrick Douglass Frederick Douglass tells his story in the Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave. He was born as a slave; therefore, he uses his story to illustrate slavery and racism in the nineteenth century. In addition, Douglass describes his experience as a slave to portray his race, which has been treated cruelly by many white people. Also, Douglass uses his story as evidence for the abolishment of slavery. Within his story, there are three key incidents that affect Douglass s life and the reader s opinion of slavery: when Douglass learns to read and write, when he stands up to his cruel master, Covey, and finally the controversy surrounding the Christmas holiday. First, Douglass believes that education is a sharp sword to break the chains of slavery. Also, he figures that white men have the power to control African Americans as slaves by keeping slaves ignorant: If you teach that nigger (speaking... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slaveholders allow their slaves to drink only during the Christmas holiday. Douglass explains the reason: I believe [the holidays] to be among the most effective means in the hands of the slaveholder in keeping down the spirit of insurrection (1049). Through this holiday, audiences realize that owners with education know how to rule slaves and control a slave s mind, by keeping them ignorant, hiding their identity, and making them lose their interest in freedom. Douglass also sees that the holidays are part and parcel of the gross fraud, wrong, and inhumanity of slavery (1049). The masters give slaves a brief time to enjoy Christmas at the end of year, but they will hold their slave for the rest of the year. He cannot stand for being defrauded by his owner; therefore, he becomes determined to fight for slaves freedom. By reading this story, readers feel sympathy for slaves and probably they will be anti slavery, which is one of Douglass purposes in publishing his life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But in the 19th century only whites were born with equal opportunities. Africans were imported as slaves and had to work on the fields of the whites. Until 1865 the Negroes were treated and looked at as something lower than human. They were compared to apes, and therefore just owned the same rights as animals. They were raised believing that whites were superior. It took them years to realize that they have to stand up for their rights. The uprising turned into a brutal civil war. Four years later, the case was brought to the Supreme Court. The justices ruled against Homer Plessy. Their decision was that segregation is legal as long as equal facilities were provided. Justice Henry Billings Brown summarized, The object of the [Fourteenth] amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could not have been intended to abolish distinctions based upon color, or to endorse social, as distinguished from political, equality. . . If one race be inferior to the other socially, the Constitution of the United States cannot put them upon the same plane. This was the opinion of most Justices and the majority of the white population at that time. From this quote you can see how the people still believed that the races were not the same and had to be kept separate. This was considered normal in the court and in the social life. The fact, that the races were not treated equally, even though stated within the law, was ignored by the white population. The ruling of the Supreme Court in this case became law. It did not gain the Negros any more rights or equal opportunities. Still, it was the first step towards desegregation. It also made people realize that there was still injustice between the races. • 22. Analysis Of Disney s The Outer Shell Of Innocence Females everywhere are obsessively trying to alter their appearance to mirror the perfect body images surrounding us in today s media. Body image dominates media everywhere you look, every time you turn your head we are pestered with beautiful women and perfect figures. The overwhelming urge for women to have a body just like the perfect models and idols we see plastered in media has spilled over into our children. Despite the outer shell of innocence, the psychological and sociological effects of Disney figures misrepresent the ideal body image as distorted to perfection and airbrushed to unrealistic; the iconic body image warping an adolescent mind into aiming for unobtainable goals. Although advances on race and gender through becoming more culturally rounded and balancing the demands of the public Disney fails in forwarding their portrayal of accurate body image. Princesses along with other female protagonists are displayed with size double zero waists, skinny limbs, and even small feet to the point where bone structure is nonexistent. This unnatural, body size presented in Disney s animated characters however, is what society calls for and demands. The thin ideal has existed in American culture since the 1960s, and it is still increasingly popular today in numerous forms of media; forty years later its impact has been so devastating it has become an expected norm. It is also no exaggeration to say that France s disastrous defeats in the early part of World War II were to be a major factor in France s ultimate loss of its Indochinese colonies of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Various reasons account for the withdrawal of the French from Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) by 1954. Since the start of the French Colonization of Indochina around 1893, tension was present in both parties which was only deepened by the series of occurrences and notions that followed. However, by taking a closer look at the modes of government, it is clear that many elements of democracy today were not present in society. Democracy is viewed very differently today than it was looked at in Greece, with the meaning of equality somehow changing over thousands of years. The ways that people participated and were represented in government has also changed, and does not show many aspects of today s democracy. With taking a closer look of the representation of ancient peoples, the role of women in ancient Greek society is also not substantial. Ancient Greecewas fairly democratic because of the connections that ancient Greek government has to governments around the globe today, the participation of the people, as well as the role women played. • 33. The Symposium By Plato Analysis In Plato s, The Symposium, there are a multitude of things that get discussed amongst the group of men, one of those theories being the idea of beauty. To truly understand what Plato thinks about beauty, you have to understand his idea of forms, and the Form of Beauty. He describes this as an everlasting loveliness which never comes nor goes, which neither flowers nor fades . The essence to understanding this form, is that we can realize all beautiful things share the Form of Beauty. But only in their involvement with this form that they become beautiful. It is an unchanging, absolute, and immortal form that cannot admit to anything less. The form itself is not ugly or offensive, or it would cease to exist in the form . This idea is brought forth in The Symposium when Socrates is talking about his encounter with Diotima and her story of the Ladder of Love . This story gives us an understanding of how we should love and what it means to be truly beautiful. Diotima shares with Socrates the process by which one can aquire these final visions , and then they are explained to us. Citation services catalogue information about how points of law in a case or statute are treated by later cases and secondary sources. Attorneys use citators to make sure that a case they want to use is current and useful law. The process of using citators to check your research is called cite checking or Shepardizing. The law being cite checked is called the cited authority. Any subsequent law that mentions the cited authority is listed in the citator as a citing authority. Citing authorities are divided into several positive or negative categories, depending on whether the citing authority... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a state appellate court cannot overrule the U.S. Supreme Court on a federal constitutional issue. The hierarchy of judicial authority matters in research and it should be considered when citing and cite checking. It is important to know that citators list all citing authorities within a cited case, regardless of whether those citing authorities are found in the holding or the dicta. Therefore, note what the citing authority says about your case, and where the citing authority uses the case within its discussion. Many of the citing authorities are found in dicta, and therefore cannot be controlling law. Also, the authorities may be only peripherally connected with the principle of law in your case. Also note whether the citing authority is in the body of the opinion or if it appears in the key notes or headnotes. Remember that headnotes and keynotes are not standards of the law, but only summaries and case finders added by the research service. In addition to listing cases that cite your target authority, citators also list secondary sources such as treatises, journals, and law reviews. With these sources, citators help expand your research. Cite checking sources are the modern way to check authorities. Before computer assisted legal research was invented, most attorneys updated their research using books. Shepard s Citators, published as a series of cumulative volumes was the ... • 41. Dramatic Ironry In O. Henry s Lamb To The Slaughter Short stories are an exeptional use of literary elements to an audience of all ages. Lamb to the Slaugher, by O. Henry, expresses many literary elements such as imagery and dramatic irony. Gift of the Magi is also an amazing use with foreshadowing and diction. Lamb to the Slaughter uses the elements better than Gift of the Magi in many different ways, starting with it s precise characters. Lamb to the slaughter expresses many literary elements, creating a story about Mary Maloney s experience with her husband. Dramatic ironyis a very critical part of the story, especially while evaluating the situation. Personally, I think it s right here on the premises. Probably right under our very noses. What you think Jack? (Roald Dahl9). She killed her husband with a frozen lamb leg after discussing troubling news that was never revealed. Mary called the police, who were also her husband s coworkers. The police never figured out what the weapon was or who killed him. Mary asked them of a favor to eat the lambleg cooking in the oven, and the weapon was right under their noses when they were eating. Additionally, the imagery really helps the most crucial part of the story come alive. Mary walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head(Roald Dahl 4). The text could have just said she hit him with a lamb leg, but instead it elaborates and explains how it happened. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. A Reflection On Educational Ideas Essay A Reflection on Educational ideas in the Enlightenment Introduction The Enlightenment, an anti feudal and anti church ideological liberation movement, took place principally in Europe during the late 17th and early 18th century. The rise of concepts of reason, liberty and the scientific method are characteristics of the Enlightenment. (Live Science, 2016) The Enlightenment covered various fields of knowledge such as science, literature, philosophy, economics, sociology and education. A number of influential thinkers have emerged in the age of Enlightenment. In education, the Enlightenment thinkers John Locke in English and Jean Jacques Rousseau in French wrote foundational texts on educational theory. Both of them laid emphasis on education in children s early age. Their educational theories affect education not only in their respective period, but also in the modern societies. However, there are some limitations of their educational theories. The reason I am interested in the Enlightenment is because I have found the writings of Rousseau and Locke are interesting and far reaching. Besides that, some of their theories strike a chord with me and remind me of the experience in my growth process. Rousseau and Emile, or On Education Week 3 s lecture introduced Jean Jacques Rousseau and his novel Emile, or On Education. The school focused on bringing together all forms of art and design making all faculties equal in importance. At first the school was influenced by The Arts and Crafts movement but after 1923 the focus shifted to mechanized production. Moholy Nagy, the director of the Bauhausfrom 1923 onward, wanted new solutions for the problems of industrialization by means of mass production and educating the new generation on how to create such solutions. The arbitrator was noted that foreman has harassed griever with criticisms and public humiliation, that crossed the boundary. • 51. Music and Poetry Music and Poetry The poetry of William Wordsworth initiated the Romantic Era by emphasizing emotion, intuition, and pleasure rather than form and affectation. His poems set the stage for John Keats, a central figure in early 19th century Romanticism. The fundamental themes in the works of both poets include: the beauty of nature; the consanguinity of dreams/visions and reality and yet the tendency of dreams to mask reality; the intense emotions brought about by beauty and/or suffering; and the transience of both sensation and human life. Although William Wordsworth and John Keats wrote poetry with entirely different senses of purpose, they came together in the worship of a song that each found in nature. Both Wordsworth and Keats... Wordsworth s persona in The Solitary Reaper explores the limitations of language as he watches the maiden in the field, enthralled by her melancholy strain (6). Unable to know of what she sings, he is forced to rely only on musical characteristics to influence his reaction. Such things as tone, quality, audible key, and tempo make it possible for one to grasp the essence of music. Although the maiden s words flow from her lips in Gaelic, the persona is able to identify the emotions underlying her song from the melodic nature of the lines she sings. Will no one tell me what she sings? Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow For old, unhappy, far off things . . . Or is it some more humble lay, Familiar matter of to day? Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain, That has been, and may be again?
