Persuasion is the act of changing individuals attitudes or behaviours; this is all around us in everyday
life especially in the media. Persuasion has shown to be effective however there are some attempts
that fail, in this essay I will explain why persuasion doesn t always work. The factors I will look at are
reactance, counterarguing, avoidance, forewarning and attitude inoculation.
Reactance theory can explain why some persuasion attempts fail. This suggests that a persistent
attempt to persuade can actually backfire, because the individual feels that the persuasive message is
directly threatening their personal freedom. This threat to their personal freedom will often produce a
defiant response which is called the boomerang effect. The individual reacts against the intended
message and takes on a totally different attitude because they become irritated and their reaction is to

The purpose of a lighthouse is to serve as a navigational aid to shores or ports and to warn boats of
dangerous areas. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is a novel that teaches how one person can
affect the lives of people around them by, in a sense, shining a light on the person s specific traits. In
the novel, Mrs. Ramsay is one of the main characters that unfortunately does not make it to the end of
the story, but her presence is shadowed throughout the novel where she is not there physically.

and after her death during the third section of the book. Mrs. Ramsay s death allows the reader to

Nursing theories have also made their influence on patient care and outcome. The theory I have
chosen to treat in this paper is Roy s adaptation Model. The Roy s model is about adaptation. It has
four key concepts, the person, health, environment and nursing. The Roy s adaptation model states a
person is a bio psych social being in constant interaction with a changing environment. The adaptation
has two subsystems. First the cognator subsystem which is a major coping process involving four
cognitive emotive channels: perceptual and information processing, learning, judgment, and emotion.
And secondly the regulator subsystem which is a basic type of adaptive process that responds
automatically through neural, chemical, and endocrine coping channels. ANALYSIS OF NURSING
THEORY Nursing theories have been a major contributor to nursing education, it has helped create a
focus. Nursing theories have also helped healthcare professional, managers and patients make unique
contributions to health care. According to Im, E. Chang, S.J. (2012) Believing that the trends of
focusing on specifics in theoretical works, close linkage to research, and integration to practice are
positive in the sense that the close linkage to research could provide solid grounds for theoretical
development in nursing and that the specifics could facilitate and strengthen the linkages between

The Pere Goriot, illustrates the corruption and greed that infested French high society during the
Bourbon Restoration. Honore de Balzac who was a right winged conservative, depicts post
revolutionary Paris as a place of corruption, greed, and dysfunctional families. The class system was
more fragile than ever before and if one was willing to do what it takes, they could have the
opportunity to make it into the Parisian Elite. With Feudalism abolished in France, you no longer had
to be born in the first estate to live the lavish life of the social elite. As a steadfast conservative and
opponent of the Revolution, Balzac depicts this new social mobility as something that corrupted
French Society. The Bourbon Restoration allowed for your wealth to be the main factor in what part of
the social strata you belonged, not what family you were born into. The abolition of feudalism coupled
with the emergence of capitalism in France furthermore allowed for people to more easily move up the
social ladder. The social structure was a volatile one, people were making and losing money all the
time and Balzac illuminates on how much people struggle to live lavishly. The fragile social structure
was not liked by conservatives who were used to never having to worry about dropping out of the elite
or people joining it. He illustrates the Parisian people as pitiless, selfish, and egocentric. Not only does
he show that the Parisian elite were cold blooded people who only cared about money and
