Main task
Collect and analyze info on the situation in countries on
the periphery of the EU, to propose actions. Admin. of
grants for competitions of students/young
physicists, supports of members of boards of D/G
Problem(s)
No budget, limited-iregular support for a meeting per year
3. Strategy and activities
The main role - support and promote exchange of
physicists and physics research across South-East and
Central (Central-East) Europe.
Despite considerable improvement in the political and
economical situation in Europe during last
decades, there are many issues that lead to
fragmentation or even “divergence” in the European
physics community.
To study situation and needs of societies in particular
those ones on the periphery of the EU to promote
cooperation between them and “old” EU countries and
to help in transfer of good practice

6. Terms of Reference
Membership/Chairman
Chairman and six members
The term of office - 3 years; maximum of two terms.
The EPS Secretary General may attend all meetings; shall not vote.
Elect a chairman from among the members appointed by the
Executive Committee of EPS; one term of 3 years.
May invite other persons to attend its meetings.
General CEI Policy
Advise the EPS Executive Committee on its policy and use of grants
given by the EPS for purposes of the CEI actions.
Increase EPS’ visibility, to help the national physical societies and
their members in their activities toward European integration and
multilateral cooperation, as well as to attract new members.
Promote the exchange of researchers, students, teachers, and
transfer of good practice and knowledge.
7. Terms of Reference
General CEI Policy
May recommend modifications and additions to the EPS policy of
European integration of new EU countries and candidates.
Should consult with other EPS bodies and members when
determining its policy. These include
Committees, Divisions, Groups, National Societies, Individual
Members, Associate Members etc.
Budget Proposal
proposals to the Executive Committee for a budget for
implementing its program of activities. The proposals shall be for a
one year period. The proposals will be discussed by the Executive
Committee. Budgetary authority and responsibility remains with
the Executive Committee. However, major variations in the
proposals made by the CEI and decisions by the Executive
Committee will be explained to Council.
8. Terms of Reference
Granting Mechanism
The CEI will advise the Executive Committee on the appropriate
mechanisms for the communication, selection, and payment of
activities proposed by the CEI.
The CEI can:
Undertake these tasks itself
Use existing EPS bodies
Propose the creation of ad hoc or permanent working groups.
Reports
The CEI will report on an annual basis to the Executive Committee
and to Council. The report should include report on
activities, budget, and an indication of policy objectives achieved.
9. Proposed actions
Exchange of students and researchers between societies. (the SEENET-MTP
platform with 20 institutions from 11 countries)
Balkan Physical Union activities, like annual students` conferences
Meetings of teachers and contest of pupils and young students (age 15-
20), used to be organized in Romania (208, 2009 and 2011) with a bit changed
or modernized program
(E-)Publishing) of Nobel laureates` biographies (in cooperation with the Nobel
committee - foundation, to translate in several languages from South-East
Europe or wider.
One or more series teachers training seminars in the region(s) (related to the
exiting program led by S. Sotiriou, R. Doran, a R. Constaninescu ...)
Synergic activities with the corresponding EPS Committee under a working
title “Women in physics” (Proykova)
Contribution to the program "State of some National Physical Societies". As
"development of the studies on National Physical Societies” through UNESCO-
SEENET program: “UNESCO-SEENET survey on physics and mathematics in 7
countries in the Balkan region”.
