Rapid re-housing programs are reducing the length of time people reside in shelter before returning to housing in the community. This introductory workshop will provide an overview of the rapid re-housing approach for practitioners and local policymakers unfamiliar with the model. Housing search, landlord negotiation, rental assistance, and home-based case management service strategies will be reviewed.

- When I started to prepare I thought I was supposed to convince you that rapid rehousing for single adults was the right thing for people experiencing homelessness– then I thought why wouldn’t it be? It’s the right thing if you believe people deserve the dignity of a home It’s the right thing if you believe that trying to figure out where to sleep, where to eat and where to go to the bathroom takes up so much time and energy, that if you solved that problem, people could focus on other issues And it’s the right thing because it saves money in the long run. So why wouldn’t it work?
- People can’t afford housing People have little or no income or income insufficient to pay rent People have little or poor credit SO what can we do to overcome those barriers? In Montgomery County – we have three programs for individuals that are rapid rehousing or housing first programs – one operated by the County government with HPRP funding and two operated by MCCH
