Hello everyone! Thanks for tuning in to my final reflection for the course internet for educators.. Basically I am going to share with you everything that I have learned in this course… well everything would take up too much time so ill just give you a brief overview!… so buckle up and lets gooo
To start my name is Jocelyn, I’m a first year education student in my fourth year of university… exciting stuff. This is my oh so lovely family… this was the most recent picture I had… from 4 years ago haha anyways both my parents grew up in saskatchewan so naturally I’m a borrn riders fan woot woot! And lastly I swim. Sometimes… when I feel energetic… yup that’s a very very brief overview of who I am!
Anyways it was by chance that I was enrolled in this course internet for educators. And although I was hesitant about it at first I can now say it was worth while!
You can see here what those minimal computer skills were.. TeHe.. This still makes me giggle. I made these a few weeks ago for one of my techtasks and even though the PLn after internet for educators is not upto date uptodate… it still gives you an idea of how much I actually learned in this class. Actually if I could think of one way to sum up what I learned… this would be the best way to represent it! I went from around 5 ways I would use the web (and honestly email would be the only one that I would used regularly) and now im up to 20plus items that I’m not only using, but using most of them daily now.
I have to admit, I wasn’t thrilled when I learned that we had to blog in this course. I had read blogs before taking this course, but the ones I read were either rants or updates on someone’s everyday life or had something to do with recipes or cooking. SO I didn’t initially see how blogging could be educational. However after reading a LOT of blogs this semester, and none of them were about cooking or personal rants by the way, I realized how very wrong I was… I know… shocker. But I actually did end up getting lots of resources and ideas!so that’s good!
Oh Twitter… another thing I thought I would never ever use! Again similar to blogging my initial view of twitter was people giving everyone a minute by minute update of their lives…. A quote or I guess movie line that immediately came to mind when I thought about twitter, was from the movie Easy A. and it was "Roman is having an OK day, and bought a Coke Zero at the gas station. Raise the roof." um I think in the movie it was actually referring to facebook but it was what came to mind when I thought about twitter. Now I have a different view…another shocker I know. I don’t use it necessarily to tweet but i do use it to follow other educators and see what kind of resources that they “tweet”. So now I see it as a useful resource. Thank you mike.
Then theres Bookmarking… my old version of bookmarking consisted of clicking that gold star at the top of the browser to ‘save’ it I guess….. And I would usually lose half the stuff I tried to save. SO Mike introduced us to things like diigo and pearltrees which now makes bookmarking things much easier…
A shout out to the speakers who gave presentations to our internet for educators class. Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts and ideas and thankyou for taking time out of your day! Another special thanks to our professor Mike Nantais… no I am not trying to brown nose.. I just know how difficult I was in the this class.. I was pretty resistant… I wish that was an exaggeration… anyways thank you mike for your patience and for pushing me to step out of my comfort zone.. It turns out I learned a lot!
One last thing I learned in this class… was how Not to steal … SOOO I have in fact provided where I got everything!
Thank you everyone for listening in, good luck to my fellow classmates on their next placement and to finding jobs! YAY! So on that note That’s all folks! Insert…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_kwXNVCaxY or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QESXBoKpBA
