                       2010 Environmental Action Awards
                                   Application for Nominees

Keep Norfolk Beautiful annually recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses, whose
ongoing efforts prevent litter, conserve or protect natural resources, improve community waste
handling practices and preserve or improve the beauty of natural and urban spaces in Norfolk
during the past year.

                                        Award Categories
Individuals, nonprofit organizations, schools/youth groups, businesses, and government entities are
      all eligible to be nominated for one or more of the award categories. The level of recognition is
                            based on meeting all or part of the following criteria:
Clean Business Award –
   • Attractive storefront and landscape, utilizing native vegetation and xeriscape techniques
   • “Reduce, reuse and recycle” practices in waste management
   • Utilizes sustainability practices in managing delivery of service or manufacture/sales of
      product

Clean City Hero – An individual who steadfastly demonstrates consistent, persistent, efforts towards
      a cleaner neighborhood, public space or business district. Types of efforts include, but are not
      limited to, litter collection, leading cleanups, promoting a cleaner community.

Norfolk Environmental Stewardship Awards–
  A. Excellence in Communication
         a. Effectively conveys message of stewardship practices and principles to a large audience
  B. Green Building Pioneer
         a. Expanding the use of sustainable building in Norfolk
  C. Rivers & Waterways Protection Award (one or more of the following):
         a. Litter prevention
         b. Wetlands enhancement/restoration
         c. Water conservation
         d. Storm water pollution prevention

The Ernie Morgan Award of Service – To be presented to an individual or organization that has
made an extraordinary contribution to promoting environmental improvement for Norfolk citizens.

Application Format and Guidelines

1)   Please type or print clearly. Use font size 12. Application should not exceed 1500 words.
     Nomination may be written or typed directly on the attached form or on separate sheets of
     paper.

2)   Individuals or groups may nominate themselves. One nominator may submit as many
     nominations as desired.

3)   Entries must be based on activities conducted June 1st, 2009 through May 21st, 2010.

4)   Entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 21st, 2010. Please mail to:
     Keep Norfolk Beautiful / 3500-A Granby Street / Norfolk, VA 23504 or deliver it to the Ernie
     Morgan Center in Lafayette Park (same address). Fax (441-5285) or email (knb@norfolk.gov)
     also accepted.

5)   Photographs (limit 5); news clips and other documentation may be submitted and are
     encouraged. No videos permitted. Submitted materials will not be returned.

6)   Please submit 1 copy of the nomination. To conserve paper, double sided pages are preferred.
     No binders please.

Award Nomination

  • 1. Norfolk 2010 Environmental Action Awards Application for Nominees Keep Norfolk Beautiful annually recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses, whose ongoing efforts prevent litter, conserve or protect natural resources, improve community waste handling practices and preserve or improve the beauty of natural and urban spaces in Norfolk during the past year. Award Categories Individuals, nonprofit organizations, schools/youth groups, businesses, and government entities are all eligible to be nominated for one or more of the award categories. The level of recognition is based on meeting all or part of the following criteria: Clean Business Award – • Attractive storefront and landscape, utilizing native vegetation and xeriscape techniques • “Reduce, reuse and recycle” practices in waste management • Utilizes sustainability practices in managing delivery of service or manufacture/sales of product Clean City Hero – An individual who steadfastly demonstrates consistent, persistent, efforts towards a cleaner neighborhood, public space or business district. Types of efforts include, but are not limited to, litter collection, leading cleanups, promoting a cleaner community. Norfolk Environmental Stewardship Awards– A. Excellence in Communication a. Effectively conveys message of stewardship practices and principles to a large audience B. Green Building Pioneer a. Expanding the use of sustainable building in Norfolk C. Rivers & Waterways Protection Award (one or more of the following): a. Litter prevention b. Wetlands enhancement/restoration c. Water conservation d. Storm water pollution prevention The Ernie Morgan Award of Service – To be presented to an individual or organization that has made an extraordinary contribution to promoting environmental improvement for Norfolk citizens.   • 2. Application Format and Guidelines 1) Please type or print clearly. Use font size 12. Application should not exceed 1500 words. Nomination may be written or typed directly on the attached form or on separate sheets of paper. 2) Individuals or groups may nominate themselves. One nominator may submit as many nominations as desired. 3) Entries must be based on activities conducted June 1st, 2009 through May 21st, 2010. 4) Entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 21st, 2010. Please mail to: Keep Norfolk Beautiful / 3500-A Granby Street / Norfolk, VA 23504 or deliver it to the Ernie Morgan Center in Lafayette Park (same address). Fax (441-5285) or email (knb@norfolk.gov) also accepted. 5) Photographs (limit 5); news clips and other documentation may be submitted and are encouraged. No videos permitted. Submitted materials will not be returned. 6) Please submit 1 copy of the nomination. To conserve paper, double sided pages are preferred. No binders please. This person rarely seeks acknowledgement and shares a positive view about environmental stewardship with others in the community.
