The document summarizes a novel approach for multisensor biometric fusion of face and palmprint images using wavelet decomposition and SIFT features for person authentication. Face and palmprint images are decomposed using wavelets and fused to create an enhanced fused image. SIFT features are extracted from the fused image and used for matching based on a monotonic-decreasing graph approach. Experimental results on a 150 person database show the proposed fusion method achieves 98.19% accuracy, outperforming individual face and palmprint recognition.

Almost all the existing stereo algorithms fall under a common assumption that corresponding color or intensity values will be similar like one another. On the other hand, it is also not that true in practice where the image color or intensity values are regularly affected by different radiometric factors like illumination direction, change in image device, illuminant color and so on. For this issue, the information about the raw color of the images which is recorded by the camera should not depend on it totally, and also the common assumptions on color consistency doesn’t influence good (great) between the stereo images in real scenario. Therefore, most of the conventional stereo algorithms can be seriously degraded in terms of performance under radiometric variations. In this work, we intend to develop a new stereo matching algorithm which will be insensitive to change in radiometric conditions between stereo pairs i.e. left image as well as right image. Unlike the other stereo algorithms, we propose a computationally efficient two stage sequential framework for stereo matching which can handle the various radiometric variations between the stereo pairs.Experimental results proves that the proposed method outperforms extremely well compare to other state of the art stereo methods under change in various radiometric conditions for a given stereo pair and it is also found from the results that the execution time is less compare to existing methods.

Super-resolution (SR) is the process of obtaining a high resolution (HR) image or a sequence of HR images from a set of low resolution (LR) observations. The block matching algorithms used for motion estimation to obtain motion vectors between the frames in Super-resolution. The implementation and comparison of two different types of block matching algorithms viz. Exhaustive Search (ES) and Spiral Search (SS) are discussed. Advantages of each algorithm are given in terms of motion estimation computational complexity and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). The Spiral Search algorithm achieves PSNR close to that of Exhaustive Search at less computation time than that of Exhaustive Search. The algorithms that are evaluated in this paper are widely used in video super-resolution and also have been used in implementing various video standards like H.263, MPEG4, H.264.

ABSTRACT: Automatic image annotation (AIA) is the bridge of high-level semantic information and the low-level feature. AIA is an effective method to resolve the problem of “Semantic Gap”. According to the intrinsic character of AIA, some common features are selected from the labeled images by multiple instance learning method. The feature selection method is applied into the task of automatic image annotation in this paper. Each keyword is analyzed hierarchically in low-granularity-level under the framework of feature selection. Through the common representative instances are mined, the semantic similarity of images can be effectively expressed and the better annotation results are able to be acquired, which testifies the effectiveness of the proposed annotation method. Gaussian mixture model is built by the selected feature method to characterize the labeled keyword. The experimental results illustrate the good perfromance of AIA.

In order to provide adequate security, a reliable and fast screening technique is needed for baggage examination.This paper aims at providing an automatic method for detecting concealed weapons, typically a gun in the baggage by employing image segmentation method to extract the objects of interest from the image followed by applying feature extraction methods namely Shape context descriptor and Zernike moments. Finally the objects are classified using fuzzy KNN as illicit or non-illicit object.

In recent years, cross spectral matching has been gaining attention in various biometric systems for identification and verification purposes. Cross spectral matching allows images taken under different electromagnetic spectrums to match each other. In cross spectral matching, one of the keys for successful matching is determined by the features used for representing an image. Therefore, the feature extraction step becomes an essential task. Researchers have improved matching accuracy by developing robust features. This paper presents most commonly selected features used in cross spectral matching. This survey covers basic concepts of cross spectral matching, visual and thermal features extraction, and state of the art descriptors. In the end, this paper provides a description of better feature selection methods in cross spectral matching.

Object tracking is one of the most important problems in computer vision. The aim of video tracking is to extract the trajectories of a target or object of interest, i.e. accurately locate a moving target in a video sequence and discriminate target from non-targets in the feature space of the sequence. So, feature descriptors can have significant effects on such discrimination. In this paper, we use the basic idea of many trackers which consists of three main components of the reference model, i.e., object modeling, object detection and localization, and model updating. However, there are major improvements in our system. Our forth component, occlusion handling, utilizes the r-spatiogram to detect the best target candidate. While spatiogram contains some moments upon the coordinates of the pixels, r-spatiogram computes region-based compactness on the distribution of the given feature in the image that captures richer features to represent the objects. The proposed research develops an efficient and robust way to keep tracking the object throughout video sequences in the presence of significant appearance variations and severe occlusions. The proposed method is evaluated on the Princeton RGBD tracking dataset considering sequences with different challenges and the obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

APPLYING R-SPATIOGRAM IN OBJECT TRACKING FOR OCCLUSION HANDLING

Basic group of visual techniques such as color, shape, texture are used in Content Based Image Retrievals (CBIR) to retrieve query image or sub region of image to find similar images in image database. To improve query result, relevance feedback is used many times in CBIR to help user to express their preference and improve query results. In this paper, a new approach for image retrieval is proposed which is based on the features such as Color Histogram, Eigen Values and Match Point. Images from various types of database are first identified by using edge detection techniques .Once the image is identified, then the image is searched in the particular database, then all related images are displayed. This will save the retrieval time. Further to retrieve the precise query image, any of the three techniques are used and comparison is done w.r.t. average retrieval time. Eigen value technique found to be the best as compared with other two techniques.

Computer vision is often used with mobile robot for feature tracking, landmark sensing, and obstacle detection. Almost all high-end robotics systems are now equipped with pairs of cameras arranged to provide depth perception. In stereo vision application, the disparity between the stereo images allows depth estimation within a scene. Detecting conjugate pair in stereo images is a challenging problem known as the correspondence problem. The goal of this research is to assess the performance of SIFT, MSER, and SURF, the well known matching algorithms, in solving the correspondence problem and then in estimating the depth within the scene. The results of each algorithm are evaluated and presented. The conclusion and recommendations for future works, lead towards the improvement of these powerful algorithms to achieve a higher level of efficiency within the scope of their performance.

The variations of viewing angle and intra-class of human beings have great impact on gait recognition systems. This work represents an Arbitrary View Transformation Model (AVTM) for recognizing the gait. Gait energy image (GEI) based gait authentication is effective approach to address the above problem, the method establishes an AVTM based on principle component analysis (PCA). Feature selection (FS) is performed using Partial least squares (PLS) method. The comparison of the AVTM PLS method with the existing methods shows significant advantages in terms of observing angle variation, carrying and attire changes. Experiments evaluated over CASIA gait database, shows that the proposed method improves the accuracy of recognition compared to the other existing methods.
