Cruze offers four technologically advanced powertrain combinations – all of which mate highly efficient inline four-cylinder gasoline engines with state-of-the-art six speed manual or automatic transmissions. The end result is a combination of fuel efficiency and torque that matches – and surpasses – any similar displacement offering in Cruze’s competitive set.Cruze will offer the 1.4 Turbo engine at launch – the 1.8L engine will have later availability.
So what makes our Turbo ready to win against top competitors in the compact segment? Our 1.4 turbo is a true “world” engine that’s been developed globally with expertise between Germany, Sweden and the U.S. with initial engines supplied from Austria and soon to be produced in a state of the art engine plant in Flint, Michigan. (It’s from the same family of engines as the Chevy Volt.)We’re targeting best in segment fuel-efficiency…our turbo is one of the most fuel-efficient four-cylinder gasoline offerings of its kind in the world. (STATE FUEL ECONOMY NUMBERS – TO BE CONFIRMED BY GARY ALTMAN)And our turbo will deliver the performance characteristics customers expect from larger displacement engines.
Right now, our estimates show our 1.4 Turbo engine offering 140 horsepower and 147.5 lb.-ft. of torque. These numbers have yet to be certified. We also estimate our 0-to-60 mph time at a very competitive low 9 second range.
So why a Turbo engine for Cruze? There are two simple reasons:One, turbo makes a small engine looks big – what that means….it provides the outstanding fuel economy of a small engine AND the performance of a larger displacement engine. And two, it improves mid-range torque…what I like to call usable power. This is the power every driver seeks on the road today…the power you use on the highway and that power you need to pass.
So how does it work? It’s complicated…and that’s a good thing. As you can see from all the features displayed here, this turbo is yet another one of GM’s technologically advanced offerings. There are various features that seamlessly help contribute to fuel efficiency and performance. I won’t go into too much detail here…but some things to note include (explain a couple key features.)
As I mentioned earlier a 1.8L Four-Cylinder engine will also be offered after launch. This engine offers 138 hp and 129 lb.-ft. of torque.
And, Cruze will offer two six speed manual transmissions to help fully utilize fuel efficiency – a segment advantage. A standard six-speed manual and an available six-speed automatic. Both transmissions offer significant benefits that help contribute to an outstanding drive experience.

Usable power and it’s built to last. When you look and durability and reliability there are several key things we have that make us unique in the segment. One, of course we offer the best coverage in America thanks to our 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
