Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte
Charlotte Bronte(1816-1855) -
pseudonym CURRER BELL
• Charlotte Brontë was born in 1816 in Thornton, the third
daughter of the Patrick Brontë and his wife Maria.
• In 1820, the Brontë family moved to Haworth, Mrs. Brontë
  dying the following year.
• In 1824 the four eldest Brontë daughters were enrolled as
pupils at the Clergy Daughter's School at Cowan
Bridge(Charlotte later used the school as the basis for the
fictional Lowood School in Jane Eyre). The following year
Maria and Elizabeth, the two eldest daughters, became ill, left
the school and died: Charlotte and Emily, understandably,
  were brought home.
• In 1831 Charlotte became a pupil at the school at Roe Head,
but she left school the following year to teach her sisters at
home. But she returns to Roe Head School in as a governess.
Charlotte Bronte
• Afterwords Charlotte left Roe Head School and she accepted
a position as governess in the Sidgewick family, but left after
three months and returned to Haworth. she became
governess in the White family as well but left, once again,
  after nine months.
• In 1842 Charlotte and Emily went to Brussels to complete
their studies. After a trip home to Haworth, Charlotte
returned alone to Brussels, where she remained until 1844.
• 1846,Bronte sisters published a book consist of the poems of
three sisters written under the pseudonyms of Currer, Ellis and
  Acton Bell.
• The following year, however, Charlotte's Jane
Eyre, Emily's Wuthering Heights, and Ann's Agnes Grey were
all published, still under the Bell pseudonyms.
• In 1849 Charlotte, visiting London, began to move in literary
circles, making the acquaintance, for example, of Thackeray.
• In June 1854, Charlotte married Arthur Bell Nicholls, her
father's curate and, in the opinion of many scholars, the model
for several of her literary characters such as Jane
Eyre's Edward Rochester and St. John Rivers.
• Charlotte died, along with her unborn child, on 31 March
1855, at the young age of 38.
• Charlotte’s friend Elizabeth Gaskell published her
controversial biography The Life of Charlotte Bronte.
Jane Eyre
• It was published in London, England, in 1847.
• An Autobiography under the pen name "Currer Bell.“
• It’s a story of young orphaned girl Jane Eyre who lives with her aunt
and cousins, the Reeds, at Gateshead Hall.
• Mrs.Reed behaviour towards Jane.
• At the tender age of ten, Jane rises up against the treatment of
those people who were treating her as a servant.
• As a punishment she was locked in ‘the red-room’.
• She was send to a religious boarding school for orphans – Lowood
  Institute.
• Lowood was under the authority of hypocritical ogre Mr.
  Brocklehurst.
• At Lowood Jane finds a pious friend, Helen Burns, and a sympathetic
  teacher, Miss Temple.
• Jane remains at Lowood as a student until she’s sixteen, and then as
  a teacher until she’s eighteen.
• The governess job that Jane accepts is to tutor a little French
girl, Adèle Varens, at a country house called Thornfield.
• At Thornfield she meets with the owner of the house a
mysterious Mr. Rochester, and he's Adèle's guardian.
• One evening when Jane’s out for a walk, she meets a
mysterious man when his horse slips and he falls – and, of
course, this is Mr. Rochester. Jane and Rochester are
  immediately interested in each other.
• Rochester invites a bunch of his rich friends to stay at
Thornfield, including the beautiful Blanche Ingram.
• After few days she gets a message that her Aunt Reed is very sick
and is asking for her. Jane, forgiving Mrs. Reed. When Jane returns to
Thornfield, Blanche and her friends are gone, and Jane realizes how
attached she is to Mr. Rochester.
• Rochester stops teasing Jane and proposes to her and she accepts.
• On the day of Jane and Rochester's wedding, something strange
happen. Rochester admits that he is married to another woman
  Bertha Mason.
• Adèle Varens (Jane's student) is the daughter of one of the
  Rochester mistress.
• He wants Jane to go and live with him in France, where they can
pretend to be a married couple and act like husband and wife. Jane
refuses to be his next mistress and runs away before she’s tempted
  to agree.
• Jane travels in a random direction away from Thornfield. Having no
money, she almost starves to death before being taken in by the
Rivers family, who live at Moor House near a town called Morton.
• She then also changes her name as "Jane Elliott" so that Mr.
  Rochester can’t find her.
• When Jane’s uncle Mr. Eyre dies and leaves his fortune to his
niece, it turns out that the Rivers siblings are actually Jane’s
cousins, and she shares her inheritance with the other three.
• St. John, who is a super-intense clergyman, proposes Jane but
she refuses because she knows she doesn’t love St. John.
• Jane paid a visit to Thornfield to find out what’s going on with
  Mr. Rochester.
• Bertha turned so wild that she set the house on fire and at the
end she committed a suicide when everyone was rescued.
• Jane goes to Mr. Rochester and offers to take care of him as
his nurse or housekeeper. What she really hopes is that he'll
ask her to marry him – and he does.
