Who are AAPS? 25 year old Pharmaceutical Sciences organization Professional organization focused on the Pharmaceutical Sciences and research Perfect fit for our Health Sciences College! 70 International chapter in the USA and around the world Our school will join an exclusive club of colleges in the region with an AAPS chapter Northeastern University Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University of Connecticut Suny Buffalo
5. Why so few? Many students are not exposed to research Do not have the chance to develop an interest Due to lack of exposure most students never explore this career path Classmates have asked me how I started research Students don’t know where to start Student Research is not really encouraged or institutionalized for all students.
6. Vision Foster student driven research in our school Enrich and Diversify students experiences at school Cultivating interest in the pharmaceutical sciences. Create a new culture of research at ACPHS.
8. Research forum Annually , host an open forum where all research faculty can meet with students interested in research This is ‘one place’ where students can meet faculty and have the opportunity to learn about and start research.
9. Student Research clubs Faculty mentored Multiple students work on a single research ‘project’ Students practice: Laboratory research Journal article composition Literature searches Assisting research faculty Completing research projects. Facilitates the exchange of scientific ideas.
10. Guest Speakers We will organize “open forums” at which invited guest speakers will share their outstanding research and guidance with our members. We will also partner with other AAPS chapters for intramural activities.
11. Field trips To local companies in the pharmaceutical industry Albany Molecular Regeneron Regional conference Northeastern Regional Discussion Group New England Science Symposium - Harvard Medical School
12. Events AAPS Events will be open to all students, staff, faculty and the local community, regardless of AAPS membership, who are interested in supporting the chapter’s research initiatives.
14. What have we done? Attended the largest gathering of pharmaceutical scientists in history! Met with AAPS Student leadership Have been told to expect recognition by mid December Preparations for the chapter Recruited more than ten active paying student members (15 + members total) Assemble the executive committee. Composed the constitution and other documents Submitted the final application packet. AAPS Global President Danny Shen
15. Response At faculty meetings, the new chapter was received enthusiastically by: Department of pharmaceutical sciences College leadership Department chairs.
16. Conclusion AAPS Student Chapter at ACPHS encourages all students to learn more about pharmaceutical sciences, technology and engineering. We hope our new generation of pharmacists will have more diverse career paths and opportunities. We should encourage future pharmacist to keep participating in Pharmaceutical research, and support talents to pursue the path of PharmD/PhD, where research is essential.
