The document provides a summary of the book "Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli. It summarizes the plot in three sentences: An unusual new girl named Stargirl comes to school wearing unique clothes and calls herself Stargirl. 2. Biography
Jerry Spinelli was born on February 1st, 1941 in Norristown,
Pennsylvania. He has written Stargirl, Crash, Knots in My Yo-yo
String, and many others. I enjoy his books very much.
Jerry became a writer at age 16, after he wrote a poem that
got published in the newspaper. He first wanted to write adult
books, but later chose to write for kids, when his grownup books
were rejected by publishers. His first published children’s book
was Space Station Seventh Grade. Again, he wanted it to be a
novel for adults, but since the main character was 13, it was
published as a kids’ book. Spinelli wrote many other books also,
all of which for kids. The book Stargirl was even made into a
movie in 2009.
Jerry was an amazing man. He served in the Navy, married,
and had six kids. He is an interesting and talented person.
3. Summary
Inthe book Stargirl , an unusual new girl shows up at school. She
wears long flowing skirts and overalls. She is very different and calls
herself Stargirl. At first, no one wants anything to do with the
interesting teen, then people start to like her. They admire her
singing and ukulele playing. They start to do what she does, but then
something happens that makes them change their mind. She
becomes a cheerleader for basketball, but she cheers for both
teams, so when Mica High (her school) looses an important game,
they blame her. They start shunning her and Leo ( the main

wonders if it will ever stop. What do you think happens next? Do you
think the shunning will stop? Will something change to make the
story a little bit different? Read Stargirl to find out!

9. Soundtrack Tunes
I chose this song for the part of the book where Stargirl takes Leo to her
enchanted place in the desert. She tells Leo to “erase himself” and start
over. That is why I chose this song for this book.
“A Horse With No Name”
On the first part of the journey I was looking at
all the life There were plants and birds and
rocks and things There was sand and hills and
rings The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds The heat was hot
and the ground was dry But the air was full of
sound I've been through the desert on a horse
with no name It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la ... After two days in the desert sun My
skin began to turn red After three days in the
desert fun I was looking at a river bed And the
story it told of a river that flowed Made me sad
to think it was dead You see I've been through
the desert on a horse with no name It felt good
to be out of the rain In the desert you can
remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one
for to give you no pain La, la ...
Etc.
10. Final Rating
My final rating forStargirl would probably be a 4 1/2 out
of 5 stars. I gave it this because I really enjoyed most of
the book, butsome parts were a little slow. I liked how
well they described the personalities and I thought the
book was really interesting, and it also shows you it is
okay to be different.
