WEB BASED INSTRUCTION
METHOD
The World Wide Web is merely a tool, as is a chalkboard, overhead
projector, or VCR. Tools don't teach. When effectively
implemented they assist in the learning process. If learning on the
part of the students has been helped by the use of a tool, then the
tool has been used successfully.
WHAT IS THE WEB BASED METHOD?
• Is a method where you can use the Web as a source students can access to recover
any information that would be useful to them.
• Not only can you use the Web to help distribute information - you can also place the
information in a form that goes beyond text and takes advantage of the media that
will help students understand better and to which they can relate more easily.
THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN
WEB BASED INSTRUCTION METHOD
• The teacher must be a guide in the use of the tools, that means to assure the
correct usage of each one of these resources.
• As the technology advances everyday the teacher has to catch up to the
current technology that is the master piece in this method.
• It is necessary for the teacher to choose the best programs, platforms, and
other tools for the correct students’ skills development and entertainment as
well due to this method it is a essential part.
WHY TO USE IT?
THERE ARE SOME REASONS TO USE THIS METHOD SUCH AS:
• enhancing student learning;
• spending more time with students working in small groups or one-on-one;
• reducing repetitive teaching tasks;
• reducing paper flow and management, and;
• providing improved instructional materials.
HOW TO USE IT?
• Working in digital learning platforms such as: Edmodo, Richmore,
Cambridge,etc.
• Posting in forums and wikis for example SimplyDiscuss, BBPress,
WikiSpaces.
• Using digital media: Photography, videos, music, e-books, etc.
• Applying the collaborative work through Google Drive.
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• Easy updating of content
• Easy delivery of training to users
• Multitasking capability suitable for
electronic performance support systems.
• We can establish deadlines which let us
create responsibility and punctuality in our
students.
• Browser limitations may restrict
instructional methodologies
• Limited bandwidth means slower
performance for sound, video, and
intense graphics
• Someone must provide server access,
control usage, bill users
• Students can get distracted easily with
others stimuli for example social media
and porn.
MAIN SUPPORTERS
• Dr. Norman Mathew is Department Head of the Career and Technology
Studies Department at Ross Sheppard High School in Edmonton, Alberta,
Canada. The topic of his post-graduate studies was Web-based instruction.
• Dr. Maryanne Doherty-Poirier is Associate Dean of Undergraduate Services
in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
