What's a gap year ?
It's a year in which you pause on your normal day
life, usually it lasts one school year or one year.
In this gap year you' ll have the opportunity to start
new activities mostly on other countries.
It occurs after finishing high school and before going
to college or to university.
2. Types of gap year :
• Private programs focusing on areas such as arts,
music or sports.
• Teaching English abroad.
• Government service like AmeriCorps.
• A whole year in the working world.
• Or all of them.
Things to consider before taking a gap
year

• What are your interests and hobbies?
• How much time can you spend?
• How much money will you need to spend on
living expenses and travel costs?
• Do you know a foreign language?
• What are your long-term plans?
• Do you want a domestic or international
position?
• Or a paid or unpaid position?
Applications that are necessary to get gap
year programs
• They are very similiar to comun job
applications unless in specific English abroad
programs or government services programs.
• If the application is foreign, you´ll have to look

country. In some cases you´ll also might have
to include a passaport-sized picture on your
resume abroad.
Pros
• Gaining experience or identify graduate
school paths.
• Have the opportunity to "give back" to
society.
• Gaining independence and maturity.
• Interacting with new enviornments and
people.
• Learning foreign languages for free.
5. Cons
• You´ll often have to pay to go on gap year
programs and earn little to no money at all.
• A poor reception by family members
• Dificulty in getting toghether information for
graduate school, due mostly to distance.
• Limited acess to job-search support.
