According to government reports: Over 38 illegal brothels in WA With over 380 workers overall Over 1,700 prostitutes operating in WA Each earning up to $5,000 a week
Why control it? Switzerland TOTALLY LEGAL Pregnancy tests in vending machines Drive in sex - box
Three methods used to control prostitution The Control Model The Regulation Model The Zoning Model
The Control Model Attempts are made to prohibit prostitution Only select locations are targeted The Regulation Model Prostitution is legalized and brothels are regulated Regular compulsory checkups at an STD clinic Protected work areas
3.	The Zoning Model Areas like Kings Cross are created where prostitutes congregate and are ‘tolerated’ by police. These areas are not as aggressively policed as other areas These ‘zones’ attract drugs and other crime. Eventually becoming ghettos where petty crime and gangs flourish
Since the mid 1970s WA has maintained a ‘containment policy’ Police allowed some brothels to operate despite being illegal as long as they followed a set of rules monitored by police officers This containment policy started encouraging police corruption Including demands for sex in exchange for not arresting prostitutes The Control Model
Currently in WA Its not an offence to provide sex But a person who manages a brothel or lives off the earnings of prostitution is guilty and can be charged Currently if you complain to police about an illegal brothel in your street there is not likely to be any action unless other offences such as under age sex, drug dealing, organised crime links or human trafficking can be linked

Notas do Editor

  1. We are doing prostitution. Here we have a comic: the prostitute is telling the policeman: “im not selling sex, im selling condoms with free demonstration.
  2. According to government reports, there are over 38 illegal brothels operating in Western Australia, with over 380 overall workers overall. That totals to over 1,700 prostitutes operating in WA, each making up to $5000 dollars a week
  3. Before we look into how the western Australian government is trying to control prostitution, lets look at why it needs to be controlled. For an example we can look at Switzerland where prostitution is totally legal. There are prostitutes roaming all of the streets and having sex with men everywhere. New vending machines have been made to sell pregnancy tests. The completely unregulated service has gotten completely out of control and the government has been forced to step in an attempt to shield everyday citizens from the sex. Drive in sex booths have been built where men can pick up a prostitute and drive into literally a fenced off car park and do their business in privacy. So from this, you can see that prostitution needs to be controlled in some way to protect the values of society.
  4. There are currently three methods to control prostitution. The Control Method, The Regulation Method and The Zoning Method
  5. The first method is the control model. In this model, Attempts are made to prohibit prostitution but only select locations are targeted by police. basically prostitutes are tolerated by police. In this model, police might prohibit street prostitution but not act against brothelsThe second model is the regulation model. In this model, prostitution is legalized and brothels are regulated. Prostitutes must make regular checkups at STD clinics
  6. The ‘zoning’ model is used to describe areas like Kings Cross where prostitutes congregate and are tolerated by the police force. Prostitution is ‘tolerated’ in certain areas while aggressively policed in other areas, These ‘zones’ attract drugs and other crime. Eventually becoming ghettos where petty crime and gangs are able to flourish
  7. Since the mid 1970s WA has maintained a ‘containment policy’. Police allowed some brothels to operate despite eventhough they were illegal,as long as they followed a set of rules monitored by police. This policy started encouraging police corruptionIncluding demands for sex in exchange for not arresting prostitutesThis is an example of the control model
  8. Currently in WA Its not an offence to provide sex But a person who manages a brothel or lives off the earnings of prostitution is guilty and can be chargedButif you complain to police about an illegal brothel in your street there is not likely to be any action unless other offences such as under age sex, drug dealing, organised crime links or human trafficking can be linked
  9. Back to the comic. The woman knows that living off the earnings of prostitution is illegal, so she's telling the police that she's making a living from selling condoms and not selling sex
  10. Sex work in WA is largely unregulated and the law in this area is inconsistent. Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has on several occasions flagged the need to change prostitution laws so police are given “clear responsibilities"
  11. The Attorney General Christian Porter says upcoming legislation will restrict prostitution to designated industrial or non-residential areas. That’sThe Zoning ModelWe all know, Kings Cross in Sydney is a prostitution zone, this zone is now notorious for crime, drugs and gangsWhich WA suburb gets the next Kings Cross? And inherits all
  12. Western Australia has tried the control model, that was a failureThey now want to use a zoning model, which could introduce even more crime to our some unlucky suburbsWhy wont they try regulating prostitution? If prostitution was regulated, Government gets $$$Not afraid to come outBetter protection for workersEasier to regulateSeparate the prostitution from drugs and gangs Regular health checkups
  13. We are doing prostitution. Here we have a comic: the prostitute is telling the policeman: “im not selling sex, im selling condoms with free demonstration.
