Prophet whom they shall find described in the Torah that is with
them, and [later on] in the Gospel: [the Prophet] who will enjoin
upon them the doing of what is right and forbid them the doing of
what is wrong, and make lawful to them the good things of life
and forbid them the bad things, and lift from them their burdens
and the shackles that were upon them [aforetime]. Those,
therefore, who shall believe in him, and honour him, and succour
him, and follow the light that has been bestowed from on high
through him-it is they that shall attain to a happy state.“

- 21. THE GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUE SUCCESSFUL MUSLIMS
“enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is
wrong”;
“make lawful the good things of life and forbid them the bad things”;
“lift burdens and the shackles that were upon them [aforetime]”;
“who believe in him, and honour him, and succour (help) him, and
follow the light that has been bestowed from on high through him.”

- 22. TO PROCEED FROM PREVIOUS LESSON ...
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR MUSLIMS TO NOTE
WHAT ALLAH S.W.T. SAYS REGARDING
SYMBOLS.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 23. “O ye who believe! Violate not the sanctity of the Symbols of Allah,
nor of the Sacred Month, nor of the animals brought for sacrifice,
nor the garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people
resorting to the Sacred House, seeking of the bounty, and good
pleasure of their Lord.”
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 2)

- 24. “... and whoever holds in honour the Symbols of Allah,
(Sha-’a-iril-laah ) *, such (honour) it comes truly from
piety (TAQWA) of heart.”
(Qur’an: Hajj: 22: 32)
Although the specific symbols here refers to Ka’aba, Safa and
Marwah etc. , such honour is also to be extended to consecrated
animals marked for Sacrifice (in Hajj), its meaning and commands
applies generally to all other things regarded as Sacred by Allah
s.w.t.

- 25. Our shortcomings and defects, our frailty and imperfections, has
veiled us from gaining closeness to Allah s.w.t. and His Messenger
s.a.w. This is a fact, and to deny is arrogance.
Though Allah and His Messenger is close to us, we are the ones who
are distant in our heedlessness (ghaflah) and ignorance (jahl’ ).
The many ‘ibadah (acts of devotion) commanded upon us are means
to “seeking nearness” (thus the word “Qurban ”) to Allah s.w.t.
Therefore, to be conscious of Allah s.w.t. and instilling reverential
fear of transgressing Allah’s commandments (Taqwa) is crucial and
conditional.

- 26. As humans we can only begin to discern or know something via
comprehending physical symbols or signs and seek to understand
their ‘meanings’.
To draw us close to Him, Allah s.w.t. sends our Prophet Muhammad
s.a.w. who conveyed and teaches us about these Signs ( aayat) from
Allah.
We ought to reflect deeply the saying of Prophet s.a.w.:

“Al-Ihsan (righteousness or best conduct) is
that you worship (serve) Allah as though you
are seeing Him; while you see Him not, yet
truly He sees you”
(Hadith reported by Muslim)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 28. His teachings gradually make us to look beyond these Signs, towards
being mindful and conscious of Allah (Taqwa), Who, ultimately is our
aim or objective (maq-suud ), and to seek and gain His pleasure
(Redha’) becomes our primary purpose:
“O My God! You are my aim (and my objective). To seek towards
Pleasing You is my purpose. Grant me the Love and the (intimate)
knowledge of You .O Allah ! O Allah ! O Allah !

- 29. When as Muslims, we acknowledge only Allah alone is God, Who is
the only Divine Being, without any partner nor associate, to Whom
belongs all creations – therefore our showing respect, honour,
holding in esteem what is regarded by Allah s.w.t. as things held as
Sacred in creations cannot be regarded as “shirk ” - as some
misguided people are quick to accuse.
Nay, in fact the proper “Adab” is as Allah s.w.t. has taught us i.e. We
must never disregard these Symbols or Signs, nor hold any
disrespectful attitudes nor show untoward behaviour regarding
these, which is if we have “TaqwaAllah” in our hearts.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 30. In the verse (ayat ) referred to (Maa-idah: 5: 2), even sacrificial animals
are regarded by Allah as amongst one of those which we must show
respect to, like His Symbols.
The Symbols here to be regarded as sacred include Mount Safa and
Marwa; Ka’aba; Maqam Ibrahim; Zam-zam; plains of ‘Arafah,
Muzdalifah and Mina etc. in Makkah.
Also things upon which Allah swears by; the Mushaf al-Qur’an, the
mosques, etc. but admittedly some of these are amongst the inanimate
amongst Allah’s creation.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 31. In fact Muslim who purposefully violates the sanctity of any of these
which are held sacred by Allah s.w.t. may even be regarded as
committing blasphemy, that leads one to “irtidad ” (or become
“murtad ”).
Surely, respecting and honouring these cannot be regarded as “ shirk ”
as certain misguided people are quick to accuse a Muslim showing
respect to these. Those people should explain how they understand
the verses quoted viz. (Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 2; Hajj: 22: 32; Baqarah:
2: 158; etc.)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 32. What about respecting those other in creations which are held in
much higher esteem by Allah Himself, than these?
If even inanimate things are to be honoured and respected, what
about those amongst the living souls, such as the Angels, Prophets,
the Truthful, the Martyrs and the Righteous? Those whom Allah
include in special grouping "the fellowship of Allah ”:

those on whom is the Grace of Allah ― of the Prophets (who teach)

Righteous (who do good): ah! How a beautiful fellowship! “

- 52. Islamic scholars differs as to who the “Ahl-al-bayt” in this verse
refers to, and their views are:
[1] From this, some limit this to only AHLUL ’ABA’ , or sometimes
referred to as AHLUL-KISA’ – comprising the FIVE namely:
Rosuulullah s.a.w with his daughter, Fatimah az-Zahra; his son-inlaw ‘Ali ibn Abi Tolib, and two grandsons al-Hassan, and al-Hussein
(‘alay-himus-salam). They were the ones selected to represent the

- 54. Islamic scholars differs as to who the “Ahl-al-bayt” in this verse
refers to, and their views are:
[2] Many considers them (in the said verse) to be the five personalities
in first group, as well as including Rosuulullah s.a.w.’s wives, the
“Mothers of all the Believers” Ummahaat-al-Mu’mineen
(radiyallaahu anhum - ajma-’in);
[3] Some opined that it includes those amongst the descendants of
“Banu Hashim”; like the Prophet’s uncle Abbas ibn Abdul Mutalib
r.a. and his family.

- 55. Islamic scholars differs as to who the “Ahl-al-bayt” in this verse
refers to, and their views are:
[4] Some, viz. Al-Khatib as-Syaibani and al-Buqa-i, commented that
generally the term “Ahlul-Bayt ” refers to: “Everyone who lives with
the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.; male and female, his wives and
including his servants (and some of his Companions). These were
those closest in kinship to Rosuulullah s.a.w., who received his
special attention and who accompanied and assisted him in his
efforts. Thus they should be entitled to be considered as amongst
the Prophet’s Household (Ahlul-Baytin-Nabiy).”

commanded by Allah in the Qur’an which He has sent down.

spread of Islam and its teachings, was the phenomena of the
Pilgrimage and travellings of our scholars (“HAJJ-WA-SIYAR” ).
