- 7. REMEMBER : Do not be hasty ....
Something should not be denied just because we cannot
fully satisfy whatever curiosity we have regarding it.
It teaches us that we should not be hasty in addressing
any issue, but to consider carefully what is being offered
based on available knowledge.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 8. REMEMBER : Do not be hasty ....
The key point here is, knowledge. To accept something is
with knowledge, and to deny it also must be based upon
knowledge.
Do not reject something by simply basing it upon our
ignorance of that thing - e.g. some people categorically
deny something with the irrelevant excuse "because , I
have not come across it."
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 9. REMEMBER : Do not be hasty ....
This statement is simply an admission of his ignorance of
that thing, not a proof (knowledge) that that thing does not
exist!
From the above, we are taught, nay, warned against being
hasty in 2 things :
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 10. REMEMBER : Do not be hasty ....
(1) That we must not believe a thing unless we have sure
knowledge about it. (Warning against hasty believing
something without knowledge).
(2) That we must not deny a thing unless we have sure
knowledge about it. (Warning against hasty denial
(categorical rejection) without knowledge).
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 11. Note:
Our Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. warns us:
“Whoever seeks knowledge to argue with the
learned (scholars), or to brag with the foolish; or
with it to attract peoples’ attention to himself;
Allah will make him to enter the Hell-fire.”
(Hadith also reported by Tirmidzi and Ibn Majah)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 13. Note:
Our Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. warns us:
“Three things make up the essential basis of believing (iiman):
[1] To stop (to desist) from accusing as unbeliever, anyone who has
declared – ‘There is no god except Allah’;
[2] never regard him as heretic (unbeliever) only because of his
committing sins nor to consider him as having exited from Islam because
of his act of disobedient ; and
[3] duty of JIHAD (striving in the cause of Allah) remains since the time I
was sent till the last one in my ummah battles the Dajjal (antichrist) .... “
(Hadith reported by Abu Dawud)

- 14. Note:
Our Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. warns us:
“When a person says to his (Muslim) brother ,
(Yaa Kaafir) – ‘Hey Unbeliever!’, then the accusation
for being an unbeliever will be upon either one of them”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)

- 16. The demarcating difference between Al-Islam and other
religion is in the AQEEDAH (Belief or doctrines – in the
intellect), the categorical different separating “TAUHEED”
with “SHIRK ”.
In the acts of religious devotions and practices, there are
bound to be certain similarities in some of the outward
forms practiced in Islam with that found in other religions.
This is unavoidable.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 17. Certain outward practices adopted by those who uphold
TAUHEED and those MUSHREEK, may only ‘seemed’ to be
similar, but when we scrutinize with ‘justice’(‘ADL) and
knowledge (‘ILM), indeed they are in reality totally and
fundamentally different.
TAUHEED is the good word containing the seed the good
tree. And SHIRK would also grow into a tree, but totally
different from that of TAUHEED.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 18. When we study the SEERAH of our Prophet s.a.a.w. We can
discern that not every practices done by the Quraysh before
Islam were totally discarded, nor certain symbols or relics
destroyed.
The first 13 years, our Prophet’s DA’WAH is to infuse
TAUHEED to removed SHIRK in peoples AQEEDAH , through
knowledge, wisdom and beautiful (fair) exhortations.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 19. Thus when TAUHEED has been established and SHIRK
removed in the Muslims AQEEDAH, even the outward
symbols and practices were retained and preserved by Allah
and Rasulullah s.a.w., e.g. rites of Hajj, Ka’aba, Hajr-alAswad, Maqam Ibrahim, Mount Safa
, Marwah, Mina, Arafah, animal sacrifice, sacred
months, etc.

- 20. “It is He Who has sent amongst the Unlettered a messenger from

- 23. REFLECT DEEPLY WHAT THE PROPHET S.A.W. SAID
IN HIS FAREWELL SERMON:
“O Mankind! Verily Satan has lost all hope that he will
ever be worshipped on this earth forever, but if you obey
him in other deeds (acts which may seem to you to be) petty
(or small), it will please him. So be very careful of
(following) him (regarding these) in your religion.”
(Excerpt from the “Seerah” by Ibnu Hisham, “al-Iqd-ul Farid”
by Ibnu Abdi Rabbih and Bukhary’ s “Saheeh”)

- 24. REFLECT DEEPLY WHAT THE PROPHET S.A.W. SAID:
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 25. REFLECT DEEPLY WHAT THE PROPHET S.A.W. SAID:
“Verily, what I fear the most for my community (ummah) is
SHIRK (ascribing partners) to Allah.
I am not saying that they will worship the sun or the moon or
idols, but it is in their being insincere in doing good deeds, not
intending it for Allah’s sake but only to please their hidden
desires.”
(Hadith reported by Ibnu Majah in “Kitab Az-Zuhdu”)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 26. Mere objects, places or outward similarity with practices of
old, was never the criteria for Islam’s rejection.
As explained – what constitute “TAUHEED” or “SHIRK” is
not in the act per se but, in a persons’ beliefs regarding
aspects of ULUHIYYAH (Divinity) and RUBBUBIYYAH
(Lordship).
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 27. Also it must be clarified here that Islam rejects certain of
the concepts as found in other religion – viz. where they
imagine God as “incarnating” or God “in-dwelling” (HULUL)
or God “union with the creation” (ITTIHAAD).
These are false ideas opposed to TAUHEED, which is the
main cause of most SHIRK attached to things.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 28. Thus although like us, the MUSHRIKEEN has MA’BUD (that
which they worship), yet we categorically reject many false
idea regarding God (Divinity) and whatever they are
worshipping.
And when the MUSHRIKEEN venerate or show respect
(TA’ZEEM) to their MA’BUD and religious relics connected to
their religion, we regard these as SHIRK.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 29. On the other hand, when a Muslim (MUWAHEED) who
shows veneration, respect or honour (TA’ZEEM) to the sacred
symbols (SHI’AR) in Islam, it is not SHIRK. Accusing them so
is foolish and malicious.

- 30. On the other hand, when a Muslim (MUWAHEED) who
shows veneration, respect or honour (TA’ZEEM) to the sacred
symbols (SHI’AR) in Islam, it is not SHIRK. Accusing them so
is foolish and malicious.
“Such (is the Pilgrimage): whoever (YU-’AZEEM)
honours the sacred rites of Allah, for him it is
good in the sight of his Lord.”

- 31. On the other hand, when a Muslim (MUWAHEED) who
shows veneration, respect or honour (TA’ZEEM) to the sacred
symbols (SHI’AR) in Islam, it is not SHIRK. Accusing them so
is foolish and malicious.

- 32. On the other hand, when a Muslim (MUWAHEED) who
shows veneration, respect or honour (TA’ZEEM) to the sacred
symbols (SHI’AR) in Islam, it is not SHIRK. Accusing them so
is foolish and malicious.
“Such (is his state): and whoever holds in honour
the Symbols of Allah (SHA-’A-IRALLAAH),
(as in the sacrifice of animals), such (honour)
should come truly from piety of heart (TAQWA).”

- 34. “Behold! Safa and Marwah are among the Symbols of Allah
(MIN SHA-’AA-IRILLAH). So if those who visit the house in the
season or at other times, should compass them round, it is no sin
in them. And if anyone obeys his own impulse to Good―be sure
that Allah is He Who recognises and knows.”

- 36. The term “
word “
“ pronounce ‘TABARRUK’ – is from the
“ BARAKAH “ - meaning :
“blessings, happiness, increase, expand,
goodness (seen or unseen), etc.”
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 37. Ar-Raghib defines ‘BARAKAH’ :
“ (Blessings) ‘AL-BARAKAH’ is the goodness which the
Divine (Allah) has bestowed (or fixed) in something.”
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 38. Therefore: TABARRUK – means
“seeking or hoping, to derive Divine goodness
(blessings) through those (occasion, persons, (traces)
relics, things, or places, etc.”

- 39. “If the people of the towns had but believed and feared
Allah, We should indeed have opened out to them (all kinds
of) blessings (BARAKAH) from heaven and earth..”
(Qur’an: A’raf: 7: 96)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 40.
“BARAKAH “ (Blessings) here encompasses those goodness
which we can know, but also includes especially the unseen
‘spiritual’ bestowals beyond our human knowledge.
Muslims are aware that such “bestowals”, when
present, would immensely benefit one’s life even though these
could not be physically quantified.

- 41. IN FOOD AND PROVISION
“O Allah” (Send upon us) Your Blessings (BARIK-LANA)
in (this) our provision (food) and save us from the
torments of the Fire.”
(Hadith reported by Ibnus-Sunny)

- 42.
In this Du’a we invoke Allah’s blessings in whatever provision
which we are give. What these ‘blessings’ are we do not claim
to know them all, but only Allah Who is all-knowing –
Wa-Allaahu a’lam.
But the invoking for these (blessings) is “value-add” which we
believe can be bestowed by Allah, differentiates us from the
heedless (GHAAFILEEN) and the unbelievers (KAAFIREEN).

- 43. AMONGST THE WEAK & POOR
“You are not given help and provision (by Allah)
except because of (blessings in the) presence of the
weak (and the poor) amongst you.”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 44.
Do not under estimate the presence of the poor and weak
amongst us.
We are in fact being tested with their presence, such that by
our rightfully fulfilling their rights, we may deserve being
assisted by Allah with much blessings.
Remember, Allah is with the “broken-hearted and patiently
persevering ones.”

- 45. IN EVERY UNDERTAKINGS
“Every important matter (affair) which is not begun with
(reciting the Basmallah) ‘In the Name of Allah, Most
Compassionate, Most Merciful’ , it will become deprived
(of the Blessings)”
(Hadith reported by ar-Rahawy)

From this “Sunnah”, in attaching in every affairs the name
of Allah, we Muslims are confident to benefit a continuous
bestowal of Allah’s blessings in our life. SUB-HAANALLAH!

- 47.
Another example, which even by our attaching Allah’s
name, harms are averted:
‘In the name of Allah, nothing (attached) with His
name, is harmed (from whatever is) on earth or in the
Heavens, and He (Allah) is The All-Seeing, The AllKnowing.’

- 50. CLARIFICATION ON THE INTERPRETATION OF HADITH
Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. said:
“Do not praise (or exalt) me excessively (ITWRA’)* like how
the Christians excessively praised (exalted) ‘Isa (Jesus) the
son of Mary.”
(Hadith )

* By regarding him to be “Divine”
- 51.
There are some who uses this Hadith (and their ‘interpretation’ of it) to
discourage the Muslims from expressing their
attachment, love, respect, praising and honouring the Prophet s.a.a.w. as
though, to them this is forbidden by this Hadith..
Yet, when we analyze this. Our Prophet specifically forbade only
regarding the misguided ‘kind’ of honouring or praising of the Christians
towards Jesus (“Isa) a.s. – elevating him to being Divine. And no Muslim
would regard any of the prophets to be Divine.
To accord Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. the highest
respect, honour, praise, adopt proper Adab to, etc. is in fact commanded
by Allah and His Messenger – not SHIRK but an aspect of a Muslim’s
IIMAN.

- 74. CONSIDER THIS QUR’ANIC VERSE
Tafsir Ibnu Katsir:
Ibn Jarir related that Ibn `Abbas said about this ayah –
BAQIYYAH – referring to, Moses' staff and the remnants of the

- 75. CONSIDER THIS QUR’ANIC VERSE
Tafsir Ibnu Katsir:
Ath-Thawri said, "Some said that it contained a pot of manna

it contained (Moses') staff and two shoes (and refer to

- 76.
We can understand though why some Muslims, especially
those who compare Islam simplistically with other religion
to conclude that every acts of “seeking blessings and
veneration” of things and places practiced even by
Muslims must also be “shunned” – ruled by them to also
be “ SHIRK “ or if not, they would justify their stand with
the caveat of “closing the door” to SHIRK.
Yet, as we have learnt, the true cause of SHIRK is in the
ignorance and their flawed belief of TAUHEED ARRUBUBIYYAH and ULUHIYYAH.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 77.
Upholding TAUHEED does not mean one must deny
the presence of and the validity in seeking of the
bounteous blessings (BARAKAH) of Allah.
Just as what can be adduced by the evidence (from AlQur’an, As-Sunnah and opinions of pious predecessors)
that, the blessings of Allah indeed are present in certain
people, events, things and places - and seeking to gain Allah’s
blessings (TABARRUK) through them were done by previous
righteous people of TAUHEED.
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 78.
What differentiate us from the MUSHRIKEEN is the
erroneous belief (AQEEDAH) they hold. Many of them
subscribe to HULUL (divine in-dwelling) and actually
regard these things or the persons they venerate or
sought blessings from (TABARRUK), as possessing “divine”
aspect or attributes – thus a clear SHIRK (ascribing
partners to Allah).
All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
- 79.
Whereas Muslims with TAUHEED do not hold such belief.
Our concept of something regarded as “sacred”, totally
rejects all such suggestion of any Divine “in-dwelling” or
“incarnation” or “union”.
Thus ‘Umar al-Khattab r.a. said to the black stone
(HAJR-AL-ASWAD): “You are but a stone which cannot
benefit nor harm, but because I have seen the Prophet s.a.w
kissed you, I now kiss you!”
