This document discusses and compares several photographs. It begins by summarizing Robert Adams' 1999 photo "Turning Back", showing a man sitting by a large tree stump, expressing the devastation of forest destruction. It then discusses Zeke Wolfgang's 2013 photo "Tough Nature", capturing a flower blossoming in winter, with a positive rather than sad view of nature. Next, it summarizes Allora & Calzadilla's 2005 photo "Hope Hippo", showing the relative size of humans compared to large animals. It then discusses Zeke Wolfgang's 2013 photo "Holy Shark!", capturing friends with a large shark caught during fishing. Finally, it briefly summarizes Rackstraw Downes' 2005 sketch of the Henry
2. “Turning Back”
By: Robert Adams 1999-2003 –gelatin silver print- 11X14
inches
What Robert is trying to express in this photo is the devastation
that comes upon him and others when forests are cut down. It
shows a man sitting by an enormous tree stump taking in all the
hurt that humans have caused the environment. Most of his
works are in black and white and having to do with capturing
nature.
3. “Tough Nature”
By: Zeke Wolfgang 2013 –Iphone Image-
In this picture I followed in Robert’s footsteps using black and white.
However, I switched it up by not having a sad feeling of nature being torn
down, but a happy feeling that even though it is 30 degrees outside this
tough flower in my yard has managed to stay blossomed.
4. “Hope Hippo”
By: Allora & Calzadilla 2005 –Image- 16x6x5 feet
What the artists are try to explain in this photo is that humans think
they are superior to other animals. However, we are not aware of
how big these animals are until we are up close and personal with
the animals. This picture shows how proportionally small humans
are to other animals in the kingdom.
5. “Holy Shark!”
By: Zeke Wolfgang 2013 – Iphone ImageThis is an image that I captured of my
two friends when we were shark
fishing in Ocean City, MD. Who would
have thought we would reel in a 11
foot Lemon Tiger shark! This picture
also represents how big other animals
are in the kingdom that humans are
unaware about until they encounter
them. This closely relates to the
artists image of the hippo.
6. “Henry Hudson Bridge”
By: Rackstraw Downes 2005 –Graphite on blue paperMr. Downes Likes to take
pictures and sketch pictures of
buildings and structures that
are under construction. He
likes to capture the structures
in the process of being made,
so that later he can go back
once it is finished and take
another picture or sketch the
finished project so that he can
view the progression of
architecture.
7. “New Home”
By: Zeke Wolfgang 2013 –Iphone Image-
I took after Mr. Downes type of technique by capturing some of my family’s
own architecture in the making. This is a photo of my parents new retirement
house they will be living in after I am out of college in Delaware. This is
capturing just the framework and outlining of the soon to be new home to my
family and I.
