Linked data and the use of graphs are enabling new business opportunities around data. Companies can directly monetize their datasets by selling them on emerging data marketplaces like Kasabi, which is being built on linked data principles. As data becomes more interconnected and useful, current tools will get smarter and new applications and business models will emerge, fueled by the ability to browse, buy, and leverage linked datasets.
Overview and illustrative of the potential for business with Linked data\nVery brief intro, not comprehensive, just a flavour\n\nIncremental improvement on existing web tools\nInnovative use of Linked Data to do things that weren’t possible before (There’s a lot of overlap here)\nEnterprise: More forward-looking. A way of thinking in a joined-up way integrated in the business model.\n\n\n

An example of improvements on the web,\nWildlife finder does what websites have done for a long time: provides info, education and entertainment.\nIt does it in new ways that are opaque to the end user, and make the project richer (from diverse data sourceS) and deeply linked.\nA major by-product of this improvement is that the web itself is build on links, and the Linked Data approach invites traffic and pagerank.\nThis approach could be applied across the board: better linking, use of Linked Data as sources of information and publishing what you’ve got in an easily-linkable way.\n

An example of innovation is Jay Myers’ work with Linked Data at Best Buy.\n\nThey’ve got thousands of “open-box” products which are difficult to track.\n\nSetting up a very simple service (it’s a blog!) with metadata about all the open boxes at each store lets Best Buy track something it wasn’t able to do before.\n\nIt’s a hint at the kind of internal business intelligence that’s possible with Linked Data.\n\nIt’s also an example of incremental improvement (There really is a lot of overlap here :) ).\n
Taking this approach further is something that’s covered in David Wood’s new book: Linking Enterprise Data. \n\n
You will have seen the intro to RDF and the idea of the Graph. I see Linked Data as a good model to influence the way we actually set up business structures. If we’re able to know more of what we know, and are empowering more people within our businesses to capture and make use of information, we’re unleashing a lot of potential.\n

Again, extremely broad look. Smarter web tools including better traffic monitoring, (increased traffic), improvements on advertising targetting, etc. \nGraph Business thinking (distributing and collecting the use of data)\n
