• India is the second largest producer of Fruits
• Fruits production is 44.04 million tones of fruits . area of 3.72 million hectares (775.25 lakh T 2011-
12) ( current status - agricoop.nic.in/hort/hortrevo5.htm )
• A large variety of fruits are grown in India, of which
mango, banana, citrus, guava, grape, pineapple and apple are the major ones. Apart from
these, fruits like papaya, sapota, annona, phalsa, jackfruit, ber, pomegranate in
tropical and sub-tropical group and peach, pear, almond, walnut, apricot and strawberry in
the temperate group are also grown in a sizeable area .
• Mango is the most important fruit covering about 35 per cent of area and accounting of 22 per
cent total production of total fruits in the country, which is highest in the world with India's
share of about 54% area 1486.9 & production -10503.5 Maharashtra-Production ('000'MT.)

• -According to data compiled by the AHDS of all states, meat from registered
slaughterhouses increased from 5.57 l tones in 2008 to 8.05 l tones in 2011 (T of

 A recent report by the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of USDA states . in 2013 India will be the world’s
largest beef exporter has drawn attention to the meat trade industry
 Global beef exports in 2013 are expected to be up 7.6 percent over 2012, pork up 1.4 percent and chicken and
poultry meat up 1.6 percent
 Export earnings from bovine (beef and cattle) meat expected to touch Rs 18,000 cr in 2012-2013
 The export of buffalo meat was 343817.08 T (value Rs 1536.77crore) in (2003-04),TO 494111.48 T(Rs.3211.70
crore) in 2006-07. The country has exported 1106.96 thousand MT of buffalo meat products to the world for the
worth of Rs. 17,400.59 crores (APEDA).

• According to The Times of India, domestic poultry meat production
(broiler - carcass weight) is estimated to have increased from less than
1 million tones in 2000 to 3.4 million tones in 2012 with per capita consumption increasing from 0.8 kg to 2.8 kg
per annum during the period
• Table egg production is estimated to have increased from 30 billion eggs in 2000 to 66 billion eggs in 2012 with
per capita egg consumption increasing from 28 to 55 eggs during that period.
• The export of poultry products was 415228.17 tones (Rs 202.40 crore) in 2003-04, TO 145889 tones (Rs 167.58
crore) in 2005-06 & 2012-13 export estimated 3,82,652.00 MT value of 36,013.00 L.
• India has emerged on the world poultry map as the 3rd largest egg (56 billion eggs) and 5th largest poultry meat

• Total chicken population has registered an annual growth of 7.3% in the last decade
