4. Konsep Konvergensi
• “Konvergensi Digital” merujuk pada perubahan
yang mendalam dalam struktur media karena
munculnya teknologi digital sebagai metode
dominan untuk menghadirkan (representing),
menyimpan (storing), dan mengkomunikasikan
(communicating) informasi.
• Di masa lalu, teknologi informasi dan
komunikasi tersegmentasi ke dalam ekonomi
dan sistem teknik yang terpisah dengan
kemampuan minimal untuk interoperabilitas.
The Center for Convergence and Emerging Network Tecnologies (CCENT) was born as the merger between the Center
for Emerging Network Technologies (CENT) and the Convergence Center of Syracuse University’s School of Information
Studies. The merger took place in 2009.
5. • Konvergensi Digital didefinisikan sebagai
‘beralihnya hampir semua media dan
informasi ke dalam format, penyimpanan, dan
transfer elektronik’ (Herman and McChesney,
1997:107).
• Dengan kata lain, konvergensi digital
merupakan pengembangan teknologi yang
mengurangi komunikasi ke dalam format
digital.
• Contoh informasi yang dapat
dikonvergensikan adalah suara (voice), teks,
video, gambar, dan bunyi (sound).

10. Konvergensi - Mediamorfosis
• Munculnya komunikasi digital pada akhir abad 20
memungkinkan organisasi media (atau individu)
untuk mengantarkan materi teks, audio, dan
video pada koneksi kabel, wireless, atau fiber-
optic yang sama.
• Pada saat yang sama, hal ini menginspirasi
sebuah organisasi media untuk mengeksplorasi
pengiriman multimedia informasi.
• Konvervensi digital media berita ini disebut
Mediamorphosis oleh Roger Fidler pada bukunya
tahun 1997.
