4. Yoga is not a cult. . . Practitioners don’t follow one leader blindly Yoga is a community--a tribe--of like-minded individuals striving to live a better, healthier, integrity-filled life Yoga is about choices and the many paths available to each of us Practitioners respect other people’s choices
6. Yoga is not a religion. . . Its origins are rooted in India, not religion Yoga will never drive someone away from their faith unless it’s the not the right faith for that person It’s a philosophy, a way of life, like Socrates, Descartes, Plato, Confucius
8. Yoga is not perfect. . . Yoga draws imperfect people Some imperfect people practice yoga to improve those imperfections Other imperfect people come to yoga for its monetary rewards Yoga helps to discern the practitioners from the posers
10. Yoga is not just for the rich. . . In fact, everyone needs yoga and its benefits (refer to Yoga Isn’t a Panacea) Yoga needs to get to the masses: rich, poor, black, white, religious, non-religious Every life is improved when stress is alleviated, illness is subverted and people are spiritually aligned
12. Yoga is not just poses. . . Yoga poses (called asanas) are only part of the total equation of what makes yoga beneficial There is also a rich philosophy, a way of life, behind the asanas Yoga must be balanced in all its parts: breathing, asanas, relaxation, philosophy
