Interactive Visual Analysis for In-Depth Bridge Management

Bridges deteriorate over their life cycles and require continuous maintenance to ensure their structural integrity, and in turn, the safety of the public. Maintaining bridges is a multi-faceted operation that requires both domain knowledge and analytics techniques over large data sources. Although most existing bridge management systems (BMS) are very efficient at data storage, they are not as effective at providing analytical capabilities or as flexible at supporting different inspection technologies. In this paper, we present a visual analytics system that extends the capability of current BMSs. Based on a nation-wide survey and our interviews with bridge managers, we designed our system to be customizable so that it can provide interactive exploration, information correlation, and domain-oriented data analysis. When tested by bridge managers of the U.S. Department of Transportation, we validated that our system provides bridge managers with the necessary features for performing in-depth analysis of bridges from a variety of perspectives that are in accordance to their typical workflow.

An overview research talk given during at JPL on July 22, 2015. Abstract: Today’s complex cyber-physical systems require the use of a variety of models to capture different aspects of these systems: physical models, software models, control models, and so on. A critical challenge is to ensure consistency and completeness of these models. In this talk we describe an approach that uses architectural models as the basis for reconciliation. Specifically, a base architecture of the system is used as a unifying representation to compare the structure and semantics of the associated models through a set of architectural projections, or views. Each model is related to the base architecture through the abstraction of a corresponding architectural view, which captures structural and semantic correspondences between model elements and system entities. The use of the architectural view framework to relate system models from different domains is illustrated in the context of a quad-rotor air vehicle and an on-going collaboration with Toyota on future braking system design.

Recently with the increasing development of distributed computer systems (DCSs) in networked industrial and manufacturing applications on the World Wide Web (WWW) platform, including service-oriented architecture and Web of Things QoS-aware systems, it has become important to predict the Web performance. In this paper, we present Web performance prediction in time by making a forecast of a Web resource downloading using the Efficient Turning Bands (TB) geostatistical simulation method. Real-life data for the research were obtained from our own website named "Distributed forecasting system". Generation of log file form website and performing monitoring of a group of Web clients from connected LAN. For better web prediction we used spatio temporal prediction method with time utility for downloading particular file from website and calculate forecasting result using Turning bands method but improving more forecasting accuracy use the efficient turning band method basically efficient turning band use Naive bays algorithm and calculate efficient result and that result is compared with Turning band and efficient turning band method. The efficient turning band method result show good forecasting quality of Web performance prediction and forecasting.

Model Based Systems Engineering is a foundation for CNXMotion to collaboratively develop motion control solutions for autonomous vehicle applications. There is a strong need for each member of our engineering team to be aligned with a common understanding of the intended system architecture. In this presentation, CNXMotion will give an overview of our organization’s experiences with using MBSE. We will introduce our motivations for using MBSE, first as a communication means for our extended organization, and for co-development within other engineering team. We will explain how our system architecture tool has provided both a modeling platform and methodology that can be flexibly adapted to best fit our research and development context. Our systems architects can closely collaborate with our engineers responsible for downstream design captures including vehicle and system behavioral simulations, software algorithms, human-machine interfaces, and hardware electrical mechanizations. The presentation will include an illustrative example of a Capella model that has lead the design team to a successful demonstration of our motion control design concepts, sharing the realized benefits of using MBSE as a collaboration means between internal and external engineering teams.

Income statement definition An income statement is a financial statement that reports a company's financial performance over a specific accounting period. It is one of the three important financial statements used for reporting a company’s financial performance, the other two being the balance sheet and the cash flow statement. The income statement focuses on the revenue, and expenses reported by a company during a particular period. It provides valuable insights into a company’s operations, the efficiency of its management, underperforming sectors, and its performance relative to industry peers. The income statement is also known as the profit and loss (P&L) statement or the statement of revenue and expense. It starts with the details of sales and then works down to compute net income and eventually earnings per share (EPS). The income statement does not differentiate between cash and non-cash receipts (sales in cash vs. sales on credit) or cash vs. non-cash payments/disbursements (purchases in cash vs. purchases on credit). Key income statement items Revenue is the total amount of money a company earns from its operations, usually from the sale of goods or services. For example, a car manufacturer’s revenue would be the total amount of money it earns from selling cars. Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) represents the direct costs associated with producing or delivering the goods or services sold by a company. In the auto industry, COGS would include the cost of raw materials, labor, and other expenses directly related to manufacturing vehicles. Gross Profit is calculated by subtracting the COGS from the revenue. Selling, General, and Administrative (SG&A) expenses represents the costs associated with a company's non-production activities, such as sales, marketing, and administrative functions. In the auto industry, SG&A expenses would include salaries of sales personnel, advertising expenses, rent for office spaces, and other costs related to running the business. Depreciation & Amortization: Depreciation refers to the systematic allocation of the cost of a tangible asset over its useful life. Amortization, on the other hand, is the process of spreading out the cost of an intangible asset over its useful life. In the auto industry, depreciation and amortization expenses would include the depreciation of manufacturing equipment, vehicles, and amortization of patents or trademarks. Interest Expenses represents the costs associated with borrowing money or using credit facilities. Interest expenses are incurred when a company has outstanding debt or loans. In the auto industry, interest expenses would include interest paid on loans used to finance manufacturing facilities or purchase equipment.
