After a number of site visits, Xceltra provided schneider Electric with a M2M remote
connectivity solution to be installed for SEC. This solution was Viola’s Arctic 3G gateway +
Viola’s M2M Gateway. These solution was picked as:
• Offer network redundancy with the possibility to use dual SIM card
• Support for HSPA+ in 3G network
• Mobile operator independent static IP addressing with Viola M2M Gateway
• Secure communication with VPN and firewall.
• Support for several encryption protocols for secure communication
• Reliable operation in high temp. found in industrial environments with Temperature ranges
from –25 to +70 °
• Flexibility through Supporting Ethernet in addition serial ports.
• A wide Range of operating temperature form –25 to +70 °C

After a number of detailed site surveys, Xceltra decided to provide Giza Systems with the M2M remote
Wireless solution to be installed for Saudi national water company (NWC). This decision was made based
on the following factors:
• Using the wired solutions wasn’t an option, as it suffers from humidity and affected by water.
• Since the distance between the sites didn’t require huge transmission power, 2.4GHZ modems were picked
over low frequency modems.
The designed M2M remote wireless solution consisted of Elpro (Eaton) 245U-E-G , As it met the project
requirement through the following features:
• License free reducing the operation cost.
• Offered flexibility with Ethernet and serial ports
• Support several encryption protocols for secure communication
• Range up to 10 Km @ 400 mW, which fits perfectly in the project as the distances between the wells was <
3km
• Deterministic AP-to-AP mesh network repeatability allowing the increase of the range , multiple channel
options and increasing network scalability.
• Fits the use in outdoor environment with a wide Range of operating temperature from –40 to +60 °C and
the ability to operate reliably in humidity from 0 to 99 % RH
• The ability to support Modbus communication protocol which eliminates the need of extra hardware to
communicate with the SCADA.
• Over-the-air network diagnostics and configuration to simplify accesses to this huge network

After a number of site visits, Xceltra decided to provide Petrofac with the M2M remote connectivity
solution. This decision was made based on the following factors:
• The sites were extremely far, and had good mobile network coverage.
• Upgrading an old Radio system, required additional installation costs as well as carrying out a new path
study.
• Using the wired solutions wasn’t an option.
The designed M2M remote connectivity consisted of Viola Systems’ Arctic Modbus Gateway, due to the
following features:
• Uses cellular network to transmit data through (GPRS/EDGE) technologies
• A Firewall and SSH to ensure secure Communication using static IP SIM cards
• Modbus serial-network gateway to be connected to the SCADA directly
• Temperature ranges: –40 to +75 °C

After studying the project and the network environment Xceltra provided Electro Power Systems with a
serial converter solution to be installed by Aramco. The decision was taken based on the following factors:
The large distances between the panel makes using fiber to transmit data a very effective solution besides
using the traditional wireless solutions.
Taking advantage of the preinstalled fiber cables using a serial to fiber converter solution was cost effective
and more reliable than using wireless.
The implemented solution for this project was Westermo’s ODW-730-F2 fiber converter with its varied SFP
options as it over came the challenges facing this project through:
• Allows 422/485 protocols to be transmitted using both multi-drop networks and redundant rings over a
fiber optic
• With stand outdoor environments with a Wide operating temperature from –40 to +70°C and humidity up
to 95% of relative humidity)
• Guaranteed system functionality as it supports ring topology.
• The ring recovery time ensures that the network devices are not aware of the failure
• Usefull in future expansion as it allows the use of a range of Westermo’s verified SFP (Small Form
Pluggable) transceivers which support distances up to 120km.
• Supports Data rates up to 1.5 Mbit/s

Xceltra Decided to provide Abu Dhabi police department with a M2M remote connectivity solution, the
thought process that preferred that solution to other solutions was:
• All the radars weren’t at a clear LOS of each other, eliminating the M2M wireless solutions.
• Using wired solution such as copper or fiber was an inefficient solution in terms of costs, as they weren’t
pre-installed in the infrastructure.
The offered solution consisted of Viola’s Arctic LTE in addition to viola’s M2M Gateway. This solution
suited the project because:
• Possibility to use dual SIM card, which offers network redundancy
• Support for LTE in 4G network and HSPA+ in 3G network
• Support for several encryption protocols for secure communication
• Secure communication with VPN and firewall
• 3 port internal LAN switch
• Mobile operator independent static IP addressing with Viola M2M Gateway
• Suitable for outdoor use with Robust aluminum casing and A wide Range of operating temperature form –
25 to +70 °C
