WSO2Con EU 2015: How to Fulfil Business Needs Without Being Impeded by IT Barriers with Z-KOO Big data and Linked Open Data are becoming more available for professional and private usage. Z-KOO is a web assistant (Web@ssistant) which enables users to access any data source and any application on any device. Z-KOO offers anything on any device. With Web@ssistant you can manage professional IT environments without any IT knowledge. Z-KOO integrates traditional IT, mobile services, and web services which makes it a perfect alternative for (desktop) virtualization like Citrix or VMware, mobile device management and identity management systems. As an example this session will demonstrate the adaptive learning assistant which is the best practise for educational usage. This encaptures linked open data, IoT and the educational curriculum, linked to learning materials from publishers, exam exercises, and scores using WSO2 products. Today we gave a talk at Future Internet Assembly 2014. Its aim was to show how OpenNebula is driving innovation in cloud computing, impacting the adoption of private cloud, and enabling business in the cloud. First, most organizations adopt cloud to optimize their IT investment, to improve existing services or to support new business and service models. In this scenario, OpenNebula lowers the barriers for new organizations to build their private cloud. Second, many organizations like the fact that open source allows great customization to meet individual requirements. They can build a differentiated cloud service to meet customers needs or to offer new cloud provision models for a specific market segment or geography. Third, open-source also encourages and supports innovation in the development of new cloud products. We have seen many examples of how its use lowers the barriers for new ICT players to create their own cloud offerings.

This slide deck is about the challenges we have to face if we deal with digitization solutions. As this term currently is massively overused, I first introduce a very simple definition to define what I mean with "digitization solution" in the context of the presentation. Afterwards, I list the challenges - at least the most relevant ones - that arise from moving into the digitzation solution domain. Based on that, I try to examine the trends, prerequisites and limitations that you are confronted with from an IT point of view and you better need to adapt to if you are confronted with digitization in your company. Last, but not least, I try to derive some practical hints for us as individuals, how we can prepare for such an environment. How to Troubleshoot Apps for the Modern Connected Worker

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system.
