conversationsIf I was the nurse leaders implementing an outreach program, I would begin
withorganizing data about the program. Understanding why the program is needed, howit
would benefit client, why it is beneficial to the hospital and how it shouldbe integrated will
need to be well understood. To assist with gathering thisinformation I would outline a
proposal and share it with employees andadministration for feedback. After the responses
are considered, I wouldrevise my proposal and seek out a member of the leadership or
administrationwho has done this before for additional feedback, tips, and
guidance.Preparing to meet with potential stakeholders would mean researching and
developingmarketing strategies. Next, I would set up a meeting with the stakeholders to
presentthe idea. I would develop a PowerPoint presentation and have handoutsavailable. I
would not only test out the presentation and equipment prior tothe meeting but I would
also have a backup plan available as well. “Technologycan be a great aide to communication,
except when it does not work so having abackup plan is essential” (GCU, 2013). I would
deliver a brief presentationthat discussed the mission and key points of the proposal.
“Makingpresentations to groups or key individuals is a regular part of the leader’srole and
delivering a comprehensible message that is required to gain supportrequires practice,
review, and public speaking” (GCU, 2013). Other techniquesto prepare may include,
practicing in the mirror to gain understanding of mannerismsused that you may not be
aware off. I would also practice presenting thepresentation multiple times focusing on clear,
articulate and concise speech. Iwould also try to prepare by considering possible questions
from thestakeholders.Communication skills are an essential ability in the role of the nurse
leader and nursemanager. “Nursing managers and leaders must understand their role in
theimportance of communication both within and outside of the organization” (GCU,2013).
For presentations I would try to be aware of my verbal and non-verbalcommunication, and
what message this is conveying to my audience. “Bodylanguage might be the oldest
language and it can be the determining factor ofwhether leaders are successful” (GCU,
2013).Gabor gives these tips for T-A-C-T-F-U-L conversations that can be helpful:T =Think
