2. Learning ( Observational learning ) Entry #1
Attitudes are positive or negative evaluation of objects of thoughts which includes
social issues, institutions, consumer products and people. There are 3 components for
attitude, cognitive, affective and behavioural. I learn that cognitive component of attitudes is
more prone on our beliefs and ideas, affective components is more on emotions and feelings
and lastly behavioural components is more on predispositions to act. For examples, attitudes
on bribery, for cognitive component, “most of the high ranking government servants take
bribe but bribe is forbidden for government servants”, for affective components, "I dislike
government servants who take bribe" and for behavioral component," I support government
servants to be punished if they take bribe”. Next is observational learning. Observational
learning is when an organism’s responding is influenced by the observation of others, who
are called models. Observational learning involves 4 key processes which are attention,
retention, reproduction and motivation. Through this lecture, I learn that aggressive behaviour
used towards children will leads to aggressive children. For examples, if parents use vulgarity
words in front of their children when they quarrel, their children will learn that during quarrel
they need to use vulgarity words to “fight back”. Other than that, exposure to TV and movie
violence will also increase the likelihood of physical aggression, verbal aggression,
aggressive thoughts and aggressive emotions.
3. Social Psychology Quiz Entry #2
27th November is our first social psychology quiz. This is a MCQ question which
contains 50 questions. For me, MCQ questions are much better than subjective question as
we can choose which answer even though we do not know the answer. This quiz is all about
the topics we had learnt which are Self Concept, The Power and Perils of Intuition, Visual
and Attitudes and Social Judgements. For this exam, it is quite tough for me as the whole
week I had to rush for DV submission which is 2 days after social psychology quiz. I had
only roughly 2 to 4 hours of sleep per day. I revised 1 time before I sleep and studies several
times before quiz but unfortunately all the stuff that I read did not go into my mind. There
were lots of stuff to memorise and my brain is currently not “functioning”. I was so nervous
before the quiz as I knew I was not prepared for the quiz but I got even nervous when I
stepped in the class. The class was so quiet. When I took the quiz there were some similar
questions but it does not seem familiar to me but I managed to finish the quiz within an hour.
