Y7 and Y8 Homework Competition
1. Y7 AND Y8 Homework Project Competition-
An exciting year for Great Britain!
Your homework for the next half-term will be to produce a series of pieces
based around the Olympic Games and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. You must
produce TWO from the following list and are advised to spend THREE
WEEKSon each:
Choose three from the following list:
A letter to the Queen telling her how you celebrated the Diamond
Jubilee and advising her on how to make the most of her coming years
as Queen.
A tourist leaflet PERSUADING people to come to the UK during the year’s
special events
An interview from a magazine with a British Olympian
Design a web-page to INFORM people about the UK Olympic games
A speech about what makes Britain great!
A review of a book, film or play written by a British author (ask your
teacher for ideas if you need to).
A poster to be displayed in airports to advertise the UK as a holiday
destination during the special events
Time Management:
You will need to do the appropriate research and planning for the tasks and
can ask your teacher for help at any point. We advise that you spend three
hours on each task and split it into the following:
1 hour planning and research
2 hours to write/produce
2. Research and planning:
Below is a list of web-sites that you can use to help you with your research and
planning stage. Computers are available in C20 for those without access to the
internet and can be used at breaks and lunchtimes.

Also, don’t forget to look at existing examples that are around you all the time!
Good places to find these are newspapers, magazines, tourist information, TV
programmes and the internet.
Submitting work:
Your work will need to be finished and brought into school by the date your
teacher sets in the last week of term. Your work will be assessed by the class
and a winner for the best complete set of work will be chosen as a finalist. The
finalists will then be judged by the English staff, who will select an overall
winner for Y7 and an overall winner for Y8. Work will be displayed on the
English blog and around the school. Good luck and do your best!
