Lack of Sleep

I can tell you to get a good night’s sleep, but is anybody
listening?


  At least 40 million Americans suffer from over 70 different
  sleep disorders.

  More than 40% of adults say that sleepiness interferes with
  daily activities.

  69% of children suffer from sleep problems a few times a
  week.

  *Chronic sleep loss may not sound like a sleep disorder, but
  the effects are just as bad.
Sleep deprivation is SERIOUS BUSINESS


 In the 1980’s, sleep deprivation was one cause of a nuclear
 melt down at Chernobyl, known as the worst nuclear power
 plant accident in history.

 Sleepy drivers cause 100,000 accidents each year, resulting in
 about 1,550 deaths.

 You’ve probably heard: driving while sleepy impairs your
 judgment just as much as driving under the influence.
Some sleep loss effects
It dumbs you down: you won’t remember what you studied as well if you
stay up all night.

It can lead to serious health problems: heart disease, heart attack,
heart failure, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes.

It ages your skin: do you want to look older than you are?

It makes you gain weight

Impairs judgement

***Increases risk of death
Just how badly does it mess with you?


 Peter Tripp set the world record for sleeplessness in 1959

 201 hours....8.4 days WITHOUT SLEEP

 After 48 hrs, his mood drastically changed to irritable and
 easily angered.

 By day 3, he had trouble remembering things and started
 having mental delusions.

 By day 7, he could not remember who or where he was.

On the morning of day 8, Peter
Tripp snapped. He thought he
was part of a conspiracy and
that his doctor was going to
bury him alive.

After his goal, he slept for 24
hours.

Just one full day of sleep cured
all of his delusions, attitude
problems, and other mental

How to Sleep Well

Create a sleep schedule: set a bedtime and stick to it. Your
body needs a consistent schedule all year long.

Get regular exercise: a group who exercised 30-40 min. four
times a week fell asleep 50% faster than the group that did
not and had a better quality of sleep.
