WPMS IS NO LONGER IN NCLB
    SANCTIONS (OR) CORRECTIVE
 THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA WAS
GRANTED ESEA FLEXILBILITY WAIVER BY THE
    U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
    http://www.ed.gov/esea/flexibility
In May of 2012, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction received
notice that the US Department of Education approved a waiver to provide
more flexibility to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also
referred to as No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

This waiver provides flexibility to many educational areas, and this notice
speaks specifically to the change in qualifications for School Improvement.
Schools will not be identified for improvement in the same manner resulting in
no school sanctions requiring School Choice with transportation or
    Supplemental Educational Services.
CONTINUED

 Pender County Schools will no longer offer School
Choice transportation, but will honor transfers to those
students currently enrolled in a choice school during the
2011-2012. If families would like to remain at their school,
they must provide their own transportation. Children
enrolled this year may remain at their school until the
final grade span of the school.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE
    FUNDS USED FOR SCHOOL
       CHOICE AND SES?
 Because of the previously mentioned NCLB waiver,
the requirement for School Choice and SES
(Supplemental Educational Services) are no longer
mandatory as the school is no longer in Corrective
    Action.
 The funds used for School Choice and SES have
    been reallocated
 50% is being reserved for a possible federal cut in January

 50% has been reallocated to the schools to support
        instruction and professional development
