3. My name is Ryan Welch. I’m now a Sophomore and Grand Valley State University where I am going into Physical Education. I chose this topic on Hockey because this has been part of my life for the past 14 years. I have been part of many different teams throughout my life and have had many accomplishments. In high school, I played Varsity for 4 years at Davison in which I was All State my junior and senior year. I hold the record there for the most points in a career with 233 in 92 games. I later went on and was named captain of the Junior Generals in Flint, Michigan where I played a season. Last year 2007 I joined Grand Valley State University’s hockey team and now currently serving as the assistance captain. 5. Since ice hockey is a full contact sport and body checks and are allowed, injuries may be a common occurrence. Protective equipment is highly recommended and is enforced in all competitive situations. 7. Officials- There are usually 2 to 3 officials on the ice of a hockey game. Two linesmen which calls Off-sides and Icing. 8. Theses are the Rules in hockey in which you CAN NOT do. If the official see you and calls a minor penalty on you, you will serve 2 minutes in the Penalty Box. There is also a major penalty in which the Referee will determine the severity of the penalty and minimum of 5 minutes in the Penalty Box Tripping (with the stick or knee) Holding (with stick or hands) Hooking (with stick) Interference (checking or impeding a player without the puck) Penalties are called for dangerous use of the stick, including: Slashing Spearing High-sticking (hitting an opponent in the head or face) Cross-checking (hitting an opponent with the shaft of the stick) Elbowing Checking from behind Kneeing Roughing QUIT
