Over the next three weeks, you will be required to read a
book and complete ONE of the projects listed below to
present to the class. You will be required to complete most
of this outside of class, but there will be days we will
                               work on it here.

                        Name: _______________
          Book Title:___________________________________
                       Author:_________________
                            Pages: _________
Number I MUST read each day to finish by Friday, November 5th:
                           ________ (pages/15)

Book Requirements:
   • Book must be at your level and cleared by ME
   • Must be a fictional novel, nonfiction, poetry, and comic books do
      not count

   • Musical Theme: Think about the major conflicts in your story.
Categorize them (man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. supernatural,
man vs. society, man vs. self) and describe each conflict you find.
Now, find a song that relates to each conflict in the story; write
about why this song is perfect and take notes on the lyrics, showing
ways the song relates to the book and its conflict. Write a one-page
summary of the conflicts and why each one best fits with the song
chosen. You will present your songs to the class and explain why they
are relevant – Must have at least 4 of them.
   • Make three posters about the book using two or more of the following
media: paint, crayons, chalk, paper, ink, real materials. Each poster
must depict a different main event in the story. Write 2-3
paragraphs for each poster describing what is being shown and its
importance to the story. You will present these to the class and
discuss what is happening in each one.
   • After reading your book, write or find 6-7 poems that fit with the
major conflict, the character’s personality, events that occurred
during the story, the setting, etc…, You will do the following for each
poem: 1) do an oral reading; 2)decorate the poem with pictures that
relate to the theme of the poem. For bonus points, you can create
original music to go with the poem using Garage Band, or music bits
found on the Internet. This will be played in the background while you
    read your poem.
• Make a newspaper about the book, with all a newspaper's parts--
comics, ads, weather, letter to the editor, sports, community… Use a
real newspaper to model this after. You must have at least 3 articles
that you write, one cartoon, one letter to the editor from a character
in the story, an obituary if anyone dies, announcements if this fits
with your story, want ads for what characters might be selling or
wanting to buy. You will show this to the class during your
    presentation.
• Interview a character. Write at least ten questions that will give the
character the opportunity to discuss his/her thoughts and feelings
about his/her role in the story. However you choose to present your
interview is up to you. This will be shared in class.
• Create a 8 slide PowerPoint about your book with each slide sharing
something important about your book. Slides must center around:
exposition, rising action (at least 3), climax, falling action, resolution.
The last slide will be a choice slide and you can put whatever you want
on this one. This will be shared with the class.
• Design a scrapbook or blog site for one of the characters in your
book. Include pictures, words, quotes, poetry, writings, photos, and
drawings the character might have put in here. Each page should have
writing about the page on it and all pages should relate to the
    character you choose.

All students will present their book talk to the class by saying a little
about the author, the characters, plot, and will read a powerful passage
aloud. Stop reading at a moment that leaves the audience hanging and
add "If you want to know more you'll have to read the book." If the book
talk is well done almost all the students will want to read the book.

Book report 1 2010

  • 1. Over the next three weeks, you will be required to read a book and complete ONE of the projects listed below to present to the class. You will be required to complete most of this outside of class, but there will be days we will work on it here. Name: _______________ Book Title:___________________________________ Author:_________________ Pages: _________ Number I MUST read each day to finish by Friday, November 5th: ________ (pages/15) Book Requirements: • Book must be at your level and cleared by ME • Must be a fictional novel, nonfiction, poetry, and comic books do not count • Musical Theme: Think about the major conflicts in your story. Categorize them (man vs. man, man vs. nature, man vs. supernatural, man vs. society, man vs. self) and describe each conflict you find. Now, find a song that relates to each conflict in the story; write about why this song is perfect and take notes on the lyrics, showing ways the song relates to the book and its conflict. Write a one-page summary of the conflicts and why each one best fits with the song chosen. You will present your songs to the class and explain why they are relevant – Must have at least 4 of them. • Make three posters about the book using two or more of the following media: paint, crayons, chalk, paper, ink, real materials. Each poster must depict a different main event in the story. Write 2-3 paragraphs for each poster describing what is being shown and its importance to the story. You will present these to the class and discuss what is happening in each one. • After reading your book, write or find 6-7 poems that fit with the major conflict, the character’s personality, events that occurred during the story, the setting, etc…, You will do the following for each poem: 1) do an oral reading; 2)decorate the poem with pictures that
  • 2. relate to the theme of the poem. For bonus points, you can create original music to go with the poem using Garage Band, or music bits found on the Internet. This will be played in the background while you read your poem. • Make a newspaper about the book, with all a newspaper's parts-- comics, ads, weather, letter to the editor, sports, community… Use a real newspaper to model this after. You must have at least 3 articles that you write, one cartoon, one letter to the editor from a character in the story, an obituary if anyone dies, announcements if this fits with your story, want ads for what characters might be selling or wanting to buy. You will show this to the class during your presentation. • Interview a character. Write at least ten questions that will give the character the opportunity to discuss his/her thoughts and feelings about his/her role in the story. However you choose to present your interview is up to you. This will be shared in class. • Create a 8 slide PowerPoint about your book with each slide sharing something important about your book. Slides must center around: exposition, rising action (at least 3), climax, falling action, resolution. The last slide will be a choice slide and you can put whatever you want on this one. This will be shared with the class. • Design a scrapbook or blog site for one of the characters in your book. Include pictures, words, quotes, poetry, writings, photos, and drawings the character might have put in here. Each page should have writing about the page on it and all pages should relate to the character you choose. All students will present their book talk to the class by saying a little about the author, the characters, plot, and will read a powerful passage aloud. Stop reading at a moment that leaves the audience hanging and add "If you want to know more you'll have to read the book." If the book talk is well done almost all the students will want to read the book.
