“God’s Spirit-Filled People”
A Sermon Series on Acts
“Our First Test Case”
Acts 4
Chapter 4 of the Book of Acts is the first public challenge to the
church. After healing a paralytic, and teaching something that was in
contradiction to the Sanhedrin, Peter and John were arrested, Peter's
response to their questions was straightforward and to the point:
Acts 4:8-12
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders
of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of
kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was
healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God
raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is
'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the
cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other
name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Frustrated with their response, the Sanhedrin warned them not to speak
any more about Jesus, to which they replied:
Acts 4:19-20
But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to
2. you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking
about what we have seen and heard.”
What can we learn from this lesson?
1. There will always be opposition to the Lord's work because it
threatens the status quo.
2. When faced with critics, we should stop, listen and cooperate
with the Holy Spirit.
3. We must speak the message of Jesus boldly and with passion.
4. If we stay focused and refuse to give in to worry,we can risk it all
in Jesus' name.

Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic
Neglect of the Holy Spirit
4. Begins Sunday, June 22
9:00 am, in Room 11
In the name of the Father, the Son, and ... the Holy
Spirit. We pray in the name of all three, but how
often do we live with an awareness of only the first
two?
As Jesus ascended into heaven, He promised to send
the Holy Spirit—the Helper—so that we could be true
and living witnesses for Christ. Unfortunately, today's
church has admired the gift but neglected to open it.
Join us in Room 11 at 9 am on Sundays, June 22- August 5, as we study
“Forgotten God.” Thorough scriptural support and compelling narrative,
author Francis Chan invites us to stop and remember the One we've
forgotten, the Spirit of the living God.
Books ($12.50) are available from Don Morgan. Please email to order at
