1. Weekly News from WCUMC-9/16/2012
Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world.
"Being the Salt and Light of Jesus
to Our World"
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how
can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to
be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world.
A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp
and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives
light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine
before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your
Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:13-16
This week's service was a reminder that we are called to show the world
our Christian faith. To live as a Christian is to love . . . and it shows in
our faces if we are following Christ with genuine commitment.
We are to let our light shine before others, not at them.
As Rick closed his sermon today, he shared a video of Jena Lee Nardella,
executive director of Blood: Water Mission, a non-profit missionary group
serving in Africa. Her prayer for our nation and its leaders (both
Democrat and Republican) is an inspiration to us all, and a great
example of being "salt and light to our world". You can view her closing
prayer on YouTube by clicking on this link:
