Jun 15, Activities and Events in Maine June 2015

Although summer does not officially arrive until
the third week of June, the schedule of activities and
events in Maine, June
2015 will make the entire month feel like a summertime
celebration.
June weather conditions
can be great for Maine

cold, for...
...honoring Moosehead Lake Region's
most
notorious animal, enjoying fine food, fine wine and fine arts, in one
of Maine's finest coastal villages...
...watching hundreds of Corvettes as they roll
along the
streets of a southern Maine beach town, enjoying Bluegrass at one of
New England's largest musical events...
...or for taking part in any of the family
activities and children's events that are on the schedule of activities
and events in Maine, June 2015.

...and find the best Maine
hotel deals and compare prices on hotels in
Maine, motels, inns and BB's.

Jane
Herbert - "Island Dance" - Acrylic on Canvas 24" x 36".
Richard Boyd Art Gallery announces the
opening of "In Sight of Land" a solo exhibition of paintings by
mid-coast Maine
artist Jane Herbert on Monday, June 1 at 10:00 AM. The public is
invited to
meet Jane at a reception in her honor at the gallery on Saturday, June
6 from
1:00 PM to 3:30 PM where she will be available to discuss her paintings.
The intertidal rocks and islands of Maine's coast
are the subjects of Herbert's
current series of paintings, which she travels by skiff to reach. It is
in this
setting that Jane says she "responds to the expansive space, sky and
sea with
acrylic paint on canvas. The weather and time of day vary the scenes
with
color, light and mood." Although, most of Jane's paintings are created
en plein
air, the large canvases are created in her Damariscotta studio using
photographs and the paintings done on location as references.
When asked about her education and experiences
Herbert remarked, "I have an
unstructured approach to art and life that has served me well. Instead
of
earning a formal education I gathered my brushes and toured Europe in a
micro-bus, painting and learning as I went. Life has been a creative,
do-it-yourself adventure for me. Through my life I have embraced my
creativity,
and painting specifically, I love painting and I love sharing my work."
Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks
Island at the corner of Island
Avenue and Epps Street, in the first building on the right, on the
first floor.
The exhibit is on view free of charge to the public from 10:00 AM to
5:00 PM
daily through June 30, 2015.
For additional information about the exhibit or
reception please call the gallery at 207-712-1097, email

brought
to you by US Cellular of Gardiner, takes place on Saturday, June 20th.
Activities run from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
Festival organizers have continued to expand
creative offerings ranging from
trying a stand up paddleboard to chainsaw sculpture demonstrations and
free
boat rides on the River. Event-goers can plan on spending part or all
of their
day in Gardiner. Historic Water Street in Gardiner will be transformed

be entertainment
and childrens' activities on Water Street, and in Gardiner's Waterfront
Park.
New this year, Gardiner Main Street and Spin-off
Studios have revived the
storied "Whatever Race" and brought it onto land. Rather than floating
downriver from Augusta to Gardiner, as was the tradition in the 70's
and
80's, folks will be invited to create human-powered moving sculptures
that
will parade through Historic Downtown Gardiner and through the
Waterfront Park.
"Late June is the perfect time to spend a day on the beautiful Kennebec
River" says Gardiner Main Street's director, Patrick Wright. "If
you've heard about some of the recent changes in Downtown Gardiner, but
haven't had the chance to visit yet, this is a great opportunity to see

we have to offer."
