Known today as NME.
Created by Theodore Smythson.
Been published since 1952.
Started as a music newspaper and gradually
moved towards magazine format during the
‘80s and 90s.

First British paper to include a singles chart.
In the ‘70s it became the best selling British
music magazine.
NME.com was launched in ’96 and is now the
world’s biggest music site with over 7 million
users per month.
As of August 2012 the magazines circulation
was 23,924 and is declining.

maintained
The masthead is in uppercase and in
bold, solid, display font. This shows the TA of
the magazine is male.
The masthead is found in the same place
each and every week, looking the same and
maintaining brand identity.
5. How brand identity is

The colours (red, white and black) help to
create a more masculine cover and adds a
more serious tone. The colours, indicate to
the TA that the magazine promotes indierock music.
