19. Please Note If the patron has any blocks that would prevent them from checking out a normal item. They will receive an error message at the login step. It will say they must check their items out at the circulation desk. Overdrive is still not compatible with the Kindle. A patron may get to this point or even download an item before they realize this. Sony Readers have a strange glitch. They can only have one type of file from Overdrive on them at the same time. All ebubs or all pdfs for instance.
22. Choosing ‘open file’ rather than ‘save file’, allows the patron to direct the file to Digital Editions.
23. The book can now be read on the patrons computer.
24. Their e-reader can be plugged in!If they have created an Adobe ID, Digital Editions, a ‘shelf’ will be added to the Editions interface for the player.
25. Digital Edition Features E-books can be returned early. As the number of Overdrive files is limited to eight at one time per card, this is a great advantage. Like an e-reader, Digital Edition has a bookmark feature and a linked table of contents, allowing for easy navigation. It will automatically sort books into ‘borrowed’ and ‘purchased’ shelves to avoid confusion.
26. Whew! That’s e-books. What about audio? Make sure to check compatibility, some items that work with iPods cannot be downloaded onto a Mac computer. Some items have permission to be burnt to CD, others do not.
27. The patron must agree to the terms of service before downloading an MP3 .
29. A patron can choose not to download the entire file the first time around.
30. Download progress can be found at the bottom of the Overdrive Console screen. Depending on the size of the book and the speed of your internet connection it can take five to twenty minutes to download an entire audio book.
31. Overdrive Console will always state the due date, how long the book will be and when it was last played.
33. Again, the patron can choose how much to transfer over to their device.
34. If the computer has iTunes, the file will automatically open there. After that, the patron need only sync their device as usual!
35. For Other Devices For all other devices, the patron must have Windows Media Player Installed. Then they can plug in their device to the computer in the USB port. Click the Transfer button in the Overdrive Media Console. A window will appear asking to plug in your device. Click Next. Again, the patron can choose which parts of the file to transfer over. Click Next. Files will sync to the portable device.
