Internet Protocol (IP)
 What is Internet Protocol?
Internet Protocol is a set of technical rules that
defines how computers communicate over a
network.
Currently, There are two versions of IP
IP version 4 (IPv4)
IP version 6 (IPv6).
Introduction of IPv6(Internet version 6)
 IPv6 is a newer numbering system that provides a much
larger address pool than IPv4. It was deployed in 1999
and should meet the world’s IP addressing needs well
into the future.
 IP addressing scheme and IP services to meet network
requirements
 next-generation Internet protocol
 128 bit address
Why we need IPv6?
 Increase the number of people and devices
 Evaluation of LTE as Technology of future
 Reduce cyber attacks
 End to end without NAT
 Encryption and Authentication in network
layer itself
Features of IPv6
 Larger Address Space
 2128=340,282,366,920,938,468,374,607,431,770,000,000
 Address Auto-configuration
 Security (IPsec mandatory)
 Mobility

Benefits of IPv6
IPv6 give us lots of addresses
More feature
Auto configuration
Ipsec
Support anycast
No broadcast traffic
Authentication and privacy capabilities
IPv4 vs. IPv6
Conclusion
 IPv6 is new
 Upgraded version of IPv6
 New features
 Large Address space
 New efficient header
