Name of the teacher : AJEESH AJ
Name of the School:BNV V & HSS THIRUVALLAM
Standard :VIII Division : A
Subject :Mathematics Strength :50
Unit :Negative Numbers Duration :45 min
Submit :Another Multiplication
Date :18/7/2014
CURRICULAR STATEMENT
The pupil are made aware of the concept of Another
Multiplication through explanation discussion and observation
CONTENT ANALYSIS
Facts : Negative numbers is generally expressed by giving –ve to
that number
Negative numbers are used in everywhere
Concept : concept of negative numbers
Concept of negative numbering
Learning Outcomes : The pupil will bw able to
1) acquire the knowledge about negative
numbers
2) Develops an understanding of above
mentioned facts , concept
3) Develops an interest to learn different
forms of negative numbers
Pre-requisities : subtraction
Teaching-learning resources : Magic Square
Teacher : teacher asks ‘can anyone tell me what was the
concept we studied in the last class ?
Pupil : Another multiplication
[teacher appereciates]
Teacher : what is 5*5 ?
Pupil : 15
[teacher appreciates]
Teacher : what is (-3)*4*(-5) ?
[no answer]
Teacher writes on the B.B
Teacher : so here we writes (-3)*4*5
Teacher : what will be the answer as we multiply?
Pupil : 60
[teacher appreciates]
Teacher : but there is way of method using for multiplication
(-3)*4*5 =[(-3)*4]*5
=(-12)*5
Teacher : what is 12*5?
Pupil : 60
Teacher : (-12)*5 = -60
-*- = +
+*- = -
-+- = -
-++ = sign of greater no.
Teacher : teacher writes the question on B.B (-1)*2*(-3)?
Teacher : how can we write ?
(-1)*2*(-3) = [(-1)*2]*-3
= (-2)*(-3)
Teacher : what is -*-?
Pupil : +
Teacher : ie (-2)*(-3) = 6
[teacher asked students to write down the answer]
Teacher : how can we write ?
1*(-5)*3 =[1*(-5)]*3
Teacher : what is -*+?
Pupil : -
[teacher appreciates]
Teacher : what is the answer ?
Pupil : -15
[teacher asked to write]
Teacher : write the question (-2)*(-3)*(-4)
[teacher called a student to write the answer on the B.B]
Pupil : (-2)*(-3)*(-4)
= [(-2)*(-3)]*-4
= 6*(-4)
= -24
[teacher appreciates]
{Teacher divided the class into 6 groups and gave the activity
card}
Teacher : This card is not an activity card.it is a ‘MAGIC
SQUARE’ . here there is 3 rows and 3 columns. In that some
numbers will be given. You can multiply any 3 you wish.
Teacher gaves the card
-4 -1
Teacher : ask to multiply horizontally, vertically and diagonaly
Teacher : what did u get?
Pupil : we got 16,32,8,4
Teacher : asked is these numbers the multiples of 4 ?
Pupil : yes
Teacher : so from negative numbers , by multiplying negative
numbers we will get the multiplies of any odd or even numbers
Teacher : write the home assignment question
a)(-32)*5*13
b) (-31)*(-23)*(-5)
c) 5*15*2
d) 22*(-15)* (-17)
