Report to Council – November 23rd, 2011
1. Clubs & Societies
– Clubs & Societies executive have been asked to submit information about their group’s
plans for this semester. This information will be compiled and sent to students by email
next week so that they are aware of opportunities for getting involved.
– The university does not have any policy governing the terms and conditions for SAC Club
usage of the athletic facilities. Currently, all requests to use these facilities are dealt
with on a case-by-case basis. I am working with Athletics to develop a policy.
2. Operations
– The Operations Committee completed a review of Environmental Audit. There have
been several environmentally sustainable initiatives as per the recommendations of the
audit including reusable water bottles in the Frosh Kits and opt-in printing of council
materials. As per the committee’s recommendation, the power management settings
for the workstations in the office have been changed so that the computers enter
standby mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. The water cooler is also being removed
from the office and is being replaced by filtered tap water.
– Upcoming projects:
i. Review of MASU Strategic Plan
ii. Review of Council Structure
iii. Review of Committees
3. Budget
– The accounting firm will be updating our accounts next week. The mid-year financial
statements will be presented at the council meeting on January 25th.
4. Office Procedures
– Working on deploying a new online collaboration platform called Podio. This will allow
us to digitize our forms so that they can be completed online. Forms for appointment
and recruitment this spring will be made available online as we work towards digitizing
our other forms and working towards a paperless office.
Respectfully submitted,
Patrick Losier
