  1. 1. Presented by Vigyat Tripathi CSE III-Year
  2. 2. Introduction History  Features  Technology Hardware Support  Software Support  Overclocking  Applications  Advantages  Disadvantages  Future Prospects  Conclusion  References
  3. 3.  The Raspberry Pi is a series of credit card–sized single- board computers developed in England, United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intent to promote the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing countries.  It can be plugged into a television set and a keyboard, and can be used for many of the operations that can be performed by an average desktop computer.
  4. 4.  Foundation trustee Eben Upton assembled a group of teachers, academics and computer enthusiasts to devise a computer to inspire children.  The computer is inspired by Amstrad PCW of 1985.
  5. 5.  Ultra low-cost (Modal A $25, Modal B $35)  Ultra low-power ~ 1W  Supports and runs Free and Open Source Linux OS  Supports full HD Video output (1080p), Multiple USB Ports etc.
  6. 6.  All models feature a Broadcom system on a chip (SOC) which include an ARM compatible CPU and an on chip graphics processing unit GPU (a VideoCore IV).  CPU speed range from 700 MHz to 1.2 GHz for the Pi 3 and on board memory range from 256MB to 1GB RAM.
  7. 7.  10/100 BaseT Ethernet Socket  HDMI Socket  USB 2.0 Socket  RCA Video Socket  SD Card Socket  Powered by MicroUSB Socket  3.5 Audio Out Jack  Header Footprint for Camera
  8. 8.  The Foundation provides Debian and Arch Linux ARM distributions for download.  Fedora and Raspbian are also commonly used OS.  Promotes Python as the main programming language, with support for C, C++, JAVA, Ruby and Scratch programming.
  9. 9.  Overclocking is the configuration of a computer hardware component to operate at a faster rate than was certified by the original manufacturer.  It will increase power consumption and heat as well.  The device may fail completely if heat load is not removed, or if the supporting power delivery components cannot handle the increased power demands.  Minor heating effects can be thwarted using heat sink.
  10. 10. As Game Consoles Raspberry Pi will boot automatically into Emulation Station using a program running off the SD card called Retropie.
  11. 11. As Web Server Apache is a popular web server application we can install on the Raspberry Pi to allow it to serve web pages. It can serve HTML files over HTTP
  12. 12. As Super Computer The RPiCluster provides another option for continuing development of projects that require MPI or Java in a cluster environment. Second, RPis provide a unique feature in that they have external low-level hardware interfaces for embedded systems.
  13. 13. As an HTPC This device has an excellent form factor and enough power to handle media playback, making it an ideal component in a low HTPC setup, yet delivering the same XBMC experience that can be enjoyed on much more costly platforms
  14. 14. As a Tor Router We can configure a Raspberry Pi with Linux and some extra software to connect to a VPN server of your choice. Using open- source software, we can handle WiFi connections from your devices, connect to another WiFi access point, and encrypt your internet through a VPN anywhere you are.
  15. 15.  It works as if a normal computer at a relatively low price.  Grouping a set of Raspberry Pi to work as a server is more cost-effective than a normal server. Expansion capabilities Huge community support  Overclocking
  16. 16.  RAM not upgradable - The main components of the Pi are soldered to the motherboard, including the RAM .  ARM is not x86 and therefore any binaries that are compiled to run on x86 cannot run on the Pi.
  17. 17.  Interesting low-cost screen technologies emerging  Development of holographic laser projector and virtual keyboard  Brambles- network of RPis  Useful in enterprises running small scale servers.  Windows 10 has been initially launched for RPi under the name Industry.
  18. 18.  Technology writer Glyn Moody described the project as a "potential BBC Micro 2.0", not by replacing PC compatible machines but by supplementing them.  Countries in the Middle East have expressed interest in providing a board to every schoolgirl, in order to enhance her employment prospects.  Raspberry Pi foundation has developed various international communities working on various projects.
