Double-Rig and Multi-Rig
Many fishing trawlers are designed to be
able to operate more than one trawl at a
time. These are known as double-rig or
multi-rig trawlers.
Variants
Variants of fishing trawls include boats
known as ‘rock hoppers’, which are large
bottomed trawls with heavy rubber
wheels rigged on to allow the trawl net to

sea or lake. Other variants are large-open-
ing midwater trawls and beam trawls.
Mechanised Hauling and
Electronics
Modern fishing trawlers use mechanised
hauling systems to drag nets through the
water. A variety of electronics are utilised
to make the process more efficient, such
as fish detection devices, communication
and navigation equipment, and electron-
ic equipment to monitor and control gear.
"Construction has recently begun
on a series of super-trawlers,
which are being built at Admiralty
Shipyards for Russian Fishery
Company.
