“ Intelligence is the capacity to do something useful in the society in which we live. Intelligence is the ability to respond successfully to new situations and the capacity to learn from one’s past experiences.” — Dr. Howard Gardner, author,  Frames of Mind  and  Multiple Intelligences: The Theory in Practice
Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor of cognition and education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, developed his theory of multiple intelligences twenty years ago. Simply put, Dr. Gardner posits that people employ several different types of intelligence, rather than one general type.
Eight Ways of Being Smart Intelligence Area Is strong in: Likes to: Learns best through: Verbal-Linguistic reading, writing, telling stories, memorizing dates, thinking in words. read, write, talk, memorize, work at puzzles. reading, hearing and seeing words, speaking, writing, discussing and debating.
Intelligence Area Is strong in: Likes to: Learns best through: Math-Logic math, reasoning, logic, problem-solving, patterns. solve problems, question, work with numbers, experiment. working with patterns and relationships, classifying, categorizing, working with the abstract. Spatial reading, maps, charts, drawing, mazes, puzzles, imaging things, visualization. design, draw, build, create, daydream, look at pictures. working with pictures and colors, visualizing, drawing.
Intelligence Area Is strong in: Likes to: Learns best through: Bodily- Kinesthetic athletics, dancing, acting, crafts, using tools. move around, touch and talk, body language. touching, moving, processing knowledge through bodily sensations. Musical singing, picking up sounds, remembering melodies, rhythms. sing, hum, play an instrument, listen to music. rhythm, melody, singing, listening to music and melodies.
Intelligence Area Is strong in: Likes to: Learns best through: Interpersonal understanding people, leading, organizing, communicating, resolving conflicts, selling. have friends, talk to people, join groups. sharing, comparing, relating, interviewing, cooperating. Intrapersonal understanding self, recognizing strengths and weaknesses, setting goals. work alone, reflect, pursue interests. working alone, doing self-paced projects, having space, reflecting.
Intelligence Area Is strong in: Likes to: Learns best through: Naturalist understanding nature, making distinctions, identifying flora and fauna. be involved with nature, make distinctions. working in nature, exploring things, learning about plants and natural events.
Communication Objectives: - To identify and name different kinds of vehicles. - To review colours and numbers. - To relate vehicles and adjectives (big/small) - To understand and follow Safety Rules.
Learning Strategies:    To use chants, songs, mime and gestures to learn vocabulary.    To use visual, physical and aural cues.    To classify and make associations.
Vocabulary and language for recognition: - Traffic lights, zebra crossing, tickets, bus driver, passengers. - Is it big or small? How do you come to school?  - Actions and commands: Stop, Get on, Get off, Ride a bike, Drive a car, Fly a plane.
Vocabulary and language for production:    Car, bus, ship, bike, train, truck, boat, plane, helicopter.    It’s big – It’s small. I can see a (plane) I come on foot/by car/by bus.
   Game: “Let’s travel” (Outdoor activity) Divide your playground in three areas with masking tape and put a sign in each one: LAND, AIR, WATER. Prepare necklaces with pictures of different means of transport. When you blow a whistle, everybody will go to the area they belong to.
   Game: “What’s missing?” Attach some flashcards on the blackboard. One child comes to the front, has a look at them and goes out for some minutes. Meanwhile, another student takes one of the flashcards and hides it. When he comes back, he has to guess which vehicle is missing.

   Arts and Crafts: ,[object Object]
   Puppet play: “Safety on the road” ,[object Object]

Puppet Play: Safety on the road. Characters: Traffic Lights, Road Sign, Zebra Crossing, Seat Bealt, Helmet. Traffic Lights:  Hi, we are traffic lights. Yellow means ‘Pay attention’, red says ‘You must stop’, and green ‘You can go on’. Road Sign:  I’m a road sign. I give instructions and important information. Zebra Crossing:  i’m a zebra crossing. I show where you can cross the street. Seat Belt:  I’m a seat belt. I protect you in case of accident.
Helmet:  and I’m a helmet. I protect your head from bumps. Traffic Lights:  Please remember to respect traffic lights. Road Sign:  Pay attention to road signs. Zebra Crossing:  Look for me to cross the street. Seat Belt:  Always wear your seat belt in the car. Helmet:  And don’t forget to your helmet on the bike. All (chorus):  You can all be safe on the road if you pay attention and follow the rules.
